John Manley For Rocky Mount City Council Ward 1 Challenging Incumbent Andre Knight, But Why?

I am still trying to figure out why Manley is running from a political stand point but I get it from a personal standpoint. I know damn well he is not blind to what the political climate is in Rocky Mount as it relates to RACE. He know quite well how Knight has been a target by the racist white folks who do not want an outspoken black man speaking truth to power publicly.

Manley has benefited from the works of Knight so what in the hell is his problem? Why is he playing right into the hands of the current racist white folks such as WHIG – TV and some of their strong supporters including Mark Bowling who is in prison and Jerry Fisher who used to co-host a morning show to talk about Knight and still on the scene daily. Watch the WHIG – TV Morning Show daily and see what they talk about or should I say who they talk about almost daily. And then you have some ignant black folks whom have ran against Knight trying to unseat him when they too have benefited from his works.

Manley one does not have to be retired to be dedicated to doing the work of the city council. The majority of the council are working folks and the majority of other boards and commissions are working folks.

Damn Manley you are out of touch if you do not understand the importance of blocking the merger of Duke Energy and Progress Energy. Obviously the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission thinks it is a problem because they have denied the merger twice.

I am glad Manley realize racism exist but to think it is not in the forefront of every issue in Rocky Mount as it relates to the City Council is just ignant as hell. You see Manley I was in a Common Ground meeting Lewis Turner, Andre Knight before he became a councilman and myself along with several whites and a white person said that some whites said they were going to move out of Rocky Mount if the council became a black majority. Well some moved however even those few they are still trying to run the city although it is a black majority. So Manley sir they created the political climate and it has been this way every since the council became a black majority. There has been so much exposed since this council and like always some folks don’t want the truth to be made known. Manley I wonder would you have been the Chief of Police if it had not been for this council.

Manley but since you feel that WHIG – TV and their supporters love you so much why didn’t you run for the Mayor of the City since you were the Chief of the entire city? Why didn’t you run for that seat and it would have allowed the whole city to vote for you and then we all could see just how much you are loved by all of the people of the city?

Well sir you know we go back to when you wanted to be appointed to fill the unexpired term of the Edgecombe County Sheriff’s position when former Sheriff Phil Ellis stepped down. I don’t have to tell that story because you know.

Newcomer challenges Edgecombe school board member

Response: Proctor said the high turnover rate among past superintendents motivated him to get involved by filing to run for a seat on the board. Proctor said when they hired Dr. Wayne Talley 59 that they ought to knew he was not going to stay long. I find it interesting Proctor didn’t mention the superintendent before him a young black male Dr. Craig Witherspoon. Witherspoon was the 1st black and only black superintendent and the auditor said the best audit ever was done under his leadership. He was also doing a good job overall but he was never accepted by the white powers that be.

Some Say Freaks (Fools) Come Out At Night, But I Say Freaks (Fools) Come Out During Election Time

During election time you will see some things how people operate over a few crumbs (dollar bills). They will sell their souls to attempt to get certain folks elected however they play both sides. They will call themselves working for a certain candidate but will be working for more than one candidate if they are getting paid by more than one. They will be in meetings talking one thing but outside of the meeting they do totally opposite.

Some folks I will not trust them no further than I can see them. President Barack Obama gets it. He put his own people in the community to work his campaign and many local folks don’t like that. Now that is smart as hell and I love it.

Well all I got to say to candidates is you better know who you are working with.

One Stop Voting Concerns

Rocky Mount NC – Sources say that they went to the One-Stop Voting Poll at Nash-Rocky Mount Board of Education Administration Building, 800 N. Fairview Road and was told that they didn’t have to vote again in November because they voted for the President on yesterday. Yes the President is on the ballot during the Primary Election May 8 however he has no opposition. If this person was actually told this this is not true. Everyone must vote for the President in the General Election on Tuesday November 6, 2012.

Tarboro NC – Sources say they took some folks to the polls at the auditorium of the Edgecombe County Administration Building, 201 Saint Andrew St. and a white female registered and voting. However sources say this female was registered as a Republican by the staff person and then told her she must have been a Republican. The staff person said to this female that it can’t be changed now. The correct thing for the staff person to have done would be to ask the person how they wanted to register. The staff person should never choose for a citizen.

If you have some concerns about some things that may have happened at the One-Stop Voting Polls please call the local Board of Elections 252.641.7852 or go to the the office.

That being said I am going to continue to piss some folks off from this day forward and I will not be apologetic for speaking truth. However if I can be proven wrong I will apologize so I challenge you, you and you to try me.

Yes I am a black man but I am not so damn black that I am “IGNANT” to my knowledge of politics and people. I know who the players are the real leaders and those who play both sides. Those who play both sides get in an all black meeting and say one thing and then get in a meeting with black, brown, white and others in the same room and they say something different. Well I don’t roll like that. I am the same in all meetings because I don’t play both sides.

I posted articles on my blog for folks before the filing period and after. So now we are past that they will not have to guess where I stand. I will be stating who I will be voting for and who I would vote for if they were on my ballot. I ain’t telling others who to vote for just making them aware who I am voting for.

I can’t wait to see the slate of candidates that the Nash-Edgecombe Black Political Caucus who drop the black off when they speak so they can play not only both sides but all sides black, brown, white and other, Democrat and Republican. I also can’t wait to see other pacs endorsements and individual endorsements. You hardly ever see individual endorsements because many of the so-called mover and shakers play both sides. Well when folks pass by my yard it is clear by the signs that are displayed and by reading my blog.

During the election of the Prosecutorial, Senatorial and House Committees Rev. Roosevelt Higgs suggested that it be a black and a white since it is 2 positions on each committee. Higgs try to make it appear he is about what is right but at the end of the day he always shows his ignance.

At the end of the meeting as the convention was about to end, Rev. Roosevelt Higgs fooled the people by saying, racial profiling is racial profiling and asked those in the room can he say it, and a few said say it and he kept repeating that and then he dropped the bomb on them saying that the only reason why Senator Clark Jenkins, House Rep. Joe Pat Tolson and Register of Deeds Robin Carpenter had folks challenging them is because they are white and he sat down saying racial profiling is racial profiling. There was much discussion in the courtroom and all the way out the door as people went to their cars talking about how ignant Higgs was and they didn’t know he was going there. I told them keep on agreeing with him before you know what he is talking about. It was funny as hell to me because he suckled them right on in.

Higgs to say that the blacks whom are running against the white candidates calling that racial profiling when we were in a Democratic Party meeting, a democratic society where all qualified Democrats have a right to file and run for a seat no matter who the incumbent is is just ignant as hell. So sir even if they are running just because incumbents are white it is legal to do so.

Last year I told the chair that I had received some calls from Pitt County that Higgs was in Greenville and Ayden that he was there pulling a trailer behind a truck with Republican C. B. Daughtridge big ole sign. The chair told me he believed it because he had taken pictures of Higgs putting up C. B. Daughtride signs at Edgecombe Community College Rocky Mount campus. If the chair whom told me he had pictures of Higgs putting up a Republican signs at Edgecombe Community College Rocky Mount Campus last year, Higgs precinct chair Mary Hinton, Rev. Wayne Hines Edgecombe County Commissioner, other commissioners and other Democrats in the county that knows Higgs do not live where he said he lives and has not since the flood in 1999 would ask him to step down as a vice precinct chair we would not have to deal with prolong meetings dealing with his intentional ignance. But obviously they are afraid of him so there you have it.

William R. Solomon Jr. Candidate For NC House 23 Responds To Open Letter From The Political Agitator

Response: First of all thank you for your response.

Sir since I have been actively engaged in politics since the early 90’s I know how the process works. Some may agree and some may not but I will stand behind my following belief 110%. When it comes to politics voters vote based on the color of a person’s skin because many times they do not know the candidate and vote for someone whom looks like them. Voters vote for a candidate because they know them or know of them. Voters vote for a candidate because a family member or friend knows the candidate so they trust in them. Voters vote for a candidate because they have seen them at a rally, heard them on the radio and/or seen them on tv. And the main one is voters will vote for a candidate just because they like that candidate. I have no problem with none of the above because it is a person’s right how they vote and whom they vote for.

Sir I will vote for a person because of the color of their skin if I do not know the candidate. If after doing my homework on a candidate and I can’t find anyone that actually knows the candidate then I will sometimes choose a person that looks like me. You see I look at the candidate and I also look at if I feel that person will be accessible to me if they are elected.

I will challenge anyone when it comes to voters voting for folks whom looks like them because I strongly feel that Jesse Helms was elected by folks simply because he looked like them and what he stood for. These folks crossed party lines because in a state of NC whereby there are more registered Democrats than Republicans he continued to get re-elected is proof enough for me.

So sir if I would be careful when you say you don’t want anyone to vote for you simply based on the color of your skin because if you don’t think that is going to happen then you are somewhat ignant to how politics work.

I will not get into the you know me and I know you thingy however I will say that I have been actively engaged in Edgecombe County Politics since the early 90’s and I know who have been actively engaged in the Democratic Party on the County Level what they have done and have not done and that is one of the things that I use when a candidate seeks office in Edgecombe County. If I was going to run for an office I would first reach out to folks who are actively engaged in the process on the county level to see if they would support me and I would respect whatever they say. However I would not file without seeking support of certain voters who are actively involved in the voting process. If I am correct I mentioned you as it relates to the Edgecombe County Democratic Party.

Sir all that you have stated here sounds great however politics is not all about who you are but well you can sell yourself to the voters along with your campaign committee. Thanks for the question. Anyone who would vote for me simply based on the color of my skin, in all candor I do not want their vote. In my opinion that is irresponsible. I would rather people have an understanding of who I am and what my vision is for this part eastern North Carolina. We have never had an indepth conversation. We have spoken a few times in passing and at meetings but I don’t really know you and you don’t really know me. Let me tell you a little bit about myself and I think it may help to answer your question. This may seem to be a ramble at times, but if you continue to read, I would hope that my thoughts fall into line for the readers. I am 33 years old. aside from the 4 years that I was in College in Greensboro and my 3 years in law school in Buies Creek, NC I have lived in Edgecombe County my entire life. As cliche as it sounds I believe that we all have a responsibility to use whatever talents that we have to make sure we leave the world better than it was when we found it.My undergraduate work was in economics, From 1998 -2000 I was planning on a career as an economics professor at the college level. As I was preparing to pursue my PhD in Economics I began to study the emergent economies of south east Asia (at the time, China and Vietnam) The closer I came to graduating college my love of history beat out my enjoyment of numbers and I decided to go to law school instead of pursuing my Masters and Phd in Econ. In all candor within the next 10 years I probably will still complete my education in economics as I really enjoy using data to find practical solutions to problems.

I have spent the last 9 years operating a general law practice in eastern NC, mostly in Nash and Edgecombe Counties. A lot of my work is criminal defense and defending parents after the department of social services has taken their children away alleging that the children have been abused or neglected. One thing I have noticed in talking to some of the people i represent is how closely the economic situations of the some of my clients tracks to some people in countries like Vietnam, Singapore and China. It bothers me that we can live in a country with as much economic opportunity as we have available here and so many people I get to know in Edgecombe County do not understand the importance of a good education and because of a lack of education will never be able to rise out of poverty. Now of course the population I deal with tends to be more skewed towards unemployed, under educated and impoverished, so it is not my intent to paint the entire county with that same brush.

From the experiences I have had, I try to develop practical solutions to some of the problems I see. One thing that has bothered me since I did a research project on post conviction relief in 2002 is the expunction laws in North Carolina. An expunction is the way you can have the record of an arrest, charge and/or conviction removed from a criminal record. Without going into too much detail, in NC and many other states, there are only a few ways to have arrest and conviction records removed from a record. Last year our general assembly did make some progress in this area, but I would like to see an application process where a person with certain non-violent offenses can show a judge that they have achieved some level of education and stayed out of trouble for a period of time and have most of their record cleared for purposes of public inspection. This is important so that people who have a past can apply for a job and have the chance to be judged on their merits instead of immediately turned down due to their record. Every week at least 3 people come into my office with a copy of their record in hand asking me if there is anything they can do about it so they can get a job. I am growing tired of saying, I’m sorry but until the state laws change there is nothing I can do in most of those situations. Something as simple as a good paying job with retirement and health insurance can go a long way towards lifting a person out of poverty. If a person is able to work and have health insurance the can move their children off the medicaid rolls. Saving the County valuable funds. So many children end up in foster care and other out of home placements due to problems their parents had that began with unemployment and poverty. This is a overview of my thoughts. When it comes to crime issues in our area. I can count 5 times in the last year that I have opened the newspaper and seen that a young man I represented within the last month has been killed or has been charged with killing someone elses child. That has caused me to become more outspoken about doing something to stop our children from killing each other. A lot of the young men that I represent stay in touch with me after I have finished with their cases. I try to offer them guidance and general big brother type advice as long as they want to call on me. I have had some of my guys invite me to their GED or college graduations. I just had the mother of one of my guys that I helped 5 years ago stop by the office with gifts for My wife and I for our new born child. Lately I’m getting too many letters from guys who are now in jail charged with murder saying Mr. Solomon, I’ve messed up and I should have listed to what you told me and stayed out of trouble. I feel like it is irresponsible of me to sit back relaxed at the beach every weekend as i could do and not at least try to change the situation that we have developing here.

So essentially my perspective is of a guy who grew up here and wants to help create a world where everyone from Edgecombe County has the same chance to dream and accomplish their goals as I have. watching this County from my vantage point feels like I’m watching my own home burn to the ground and I can’t stand by and just watch.

I don’t suggest that I have all of the answers to our issues, but I am willing to continue working make our County a place that my children may want to live when they grow up.

Since I am well known across the state of North Carolina, I have been receiving calls and etc. wanting to know where I stand on the NC House 23 election. So since some of my faithful followers reach out to me from time to time to get my opinion on issues and people I do my homework so that I can be well informed on issues and people so I can respond to the best of my knowledge.

First of all I respect you being a young black male several years younger than I and I am glad you are somewhat interested in politics. However I have some concerns.

I met you at a Democratic Party meeting and over the years you once took on the role as the Young Democrats Chair in Edgecombe County. Andre Knight Rocky Mount Councilman and Vice Chair of Edgecombe County Democratic Party Executive Committee at that time and I reached out to you. We told you that we would work with you. We never heard from you. And then later you stopped coming to the Democratic Party meetings.

Later you showed up for something that you were interested in and then I missed you at the meetings again. And then recently you showed back up and then I heard you were going to file for the NC House District 23 seat. Well I didn’t hear anything from you before you filed nor have I heard anything from you since you filed.

You ran against Andre Knight for Rocky Mount City Council during the last election. I had asked you had you ever thought about running for the Edgecombe County Public Schools Board of Education?

I am glad you asked just who am I? You don’t need my permission to run for anything and that is rightfully so. But let me remind you who I am. I am one of the most active if not the most active Democrat in Edgecombe County as far as attending meetings and educating the county, state and nation about what is going on politically almost daily. I have been disrespected and not supported financially however you and others have benefitted. I will not promote you and others whom do not support me.

If you do not respect my work now why in the hell should I expect you to respect me if you were to become my next House Representative? Oh but you did acknowledge me in a meeting that we were in recently that I was the computer guru. Well sir I didn’t take that as a compliment but as an insult knowing that you have not supported me as it relates to the Democratic Party.

Since you did not ask for my support before you filed then I guess I suppose to just vote for you just because you are black. Not! Well my friend I have changed the way I do things. I take many things in consideration.

An open letter to Dr. Florence A. Armstrong

Since I am well known across the state of North Carolina, I have been receiving calls and etc. (most recent about 2 hours ago) about where I stand on the NC Senate District 3 election. So since some of my faithful followers reach out to me from time to time to get my opinion on issues and people I do my homework so that I can be well informed on issues and people so I can respond to the best of my knowledge.

Dr. Armstrong several years ago when you applied for the Principal position at G. W. Carver Elementary School I stood up for you. It was clear that you were blackballed. I made it known in the meeting when we were interviewing candidates. I visited you to let you know what happened.

I have been in meetings with you over the years and you know me and I know you. Although I have been around many whom have issues with you saying you were very arrogant and etc. I have not allowed others opinions to sway me when it comes to my personal relationship with you.

I told you I could not support you running for the Senate District 3 seat during the last election.

I have somewhat lost all trust in you because over the years I do not believe you have been truly open and responsive to me and when it comes to politics. When you were on the Edgecombe County Public Schools Board I don’t feel like you shared enough information with me that was public information. Please don’t get this twisted because I do not mean sharing personnel and any closed session information with me but as I stated public information. However I do feel strongly that you shared information with several folks whom were close to you whom did not attend the meetings regularly like I did.

In my opinion I find your most recent filing to run for the Senate District 3 to be somewhat comical. Now let me get this out of the way. I am just as black as they come but I am not so black that I am ignant to what is real and what is perceived. I hate it when folks play upon my intelligence.

I had been hearing that you were going to file for the Senate District 3 seat but you didn’t mention it to me this time. I have no problem with that because who am I? Well I know you know that I am very actively engaged in Edgecombe County Politics but not limited to. You also know that I am the publisher of The DCN News Blog Online/TV. You know that I report the news and that I give my opinion on issues, people and etc. when it comes to educating people about what is going on around them. I feel that anyone who seeks to unseat Senator Clark Jenkins will have to have a real political machine. I don’t think you have one however I could be wrong since I know nothing about your campaign. Jenkins has lots of money and since I know you and you know me I have some concerns about the financing of your campaign.

So now my question to you is why should I support you?

I am Just As Black As They Come But I Am Not So Black That I Am Ignant, A Message To Black Candidates

It takes money for me to do what I do with The DCN News Blog/Online TV but folks act as if I owe them something. It tickles the hell out of me when folks don’t value my work but when they want my support I am the computer guru and all of that when they want my resources. And they think I am going to just stop what I am doing and help them work to get themselves in office, oh hell no. Now if they don’t support me now, why in the hell would I be ignant enough to help them because if they don’t support me now, why in the hell should I expect them to help me when they arrive.

Now I am just as damn black as it comes but I am not so damn black that I am ignant to the facts of where folks stand and what is going on around me. Some black folks lie and do all kinds of things during election time when they are running for office but talk about what the white man ain’t doing. Well sir and ma’am you ain’t no damn better than those whom you talk about.

This week I have purchased $180.00 worth of gas, $50.00 daughter’s car, $50.00 my car and $80.00 in a vehicle I borrowed while having daughter’s car repaired.

I have purchased one part for $250.00 and one for $119.00 and this is not counting labor for the person doing the repairs.

I run into folks who want me to help them by buying tickets for banquets, raffles and etc. but again they have never donated to The DCN TV/Online TV and these same folks in the Democratic Party have not supported me when I was nominated for office on the county level. Trust me it did not matter if they supported me because if I wanted a position I would have campaigned for it but what tickles the hell out of me is to watch how they vote. And then those same folks when they need me they want me to support them. You see that shows you how inferior they are of me because I know I am damn good at holding folks accountable in meetings and etc. because I am very much politically inclined and very, very knowledgeable of the process because I do my homework.

I have been very, very busy over the past couple of weeks attending workshops and other across the state and attending some local meetings in the county. I work a real job and then work at home downloading pictures and videos almost daily because it is so time consuming. I have 2 computers running and that still is not enough. I take my equipment everywhere I go so I can do a little work wherever I am if I am going to be at place 1 hour or more.

Well I am going to continue to educate folks about what is going on around them and at the same time I am not going to promote nor support folks who want to represent me and others when I know they are all about themselves and really don’t give a damn about the people. If you do you would tell us why you are running against another person, what they have not done and why you feel you are going to do more.

Well in my closing you don’t have to respond to me but remember I do not have to respond to you either. But what you need to remember is that I am an active black man and you are not going to just represent me in any kind of fashion. Since you say you are going to do more than those you are running against then I am going to hold you accountable.

Okay let the showdown begin. Are you ready? I am. I know why it is a good thing to have good people in office but I also know what I feel I can expect out of those who are running and want my support. And those who have not asked for my support I know what to expect from them also.

In my closing I am just a nobody but I do have The DCN TV/Online TV and I can be your friend or your worst nightmare. When you go messing with my future and my children’s future then you will hear from me. So if you have not heard from me, know that you will be hearing from me in the near future.
