Tarboro NC – Edgecombe County Public Schools Facing Huge Cuts Edgecombe County Board Of Commissioners Meets Monday June 30, 2014

Proposed cuts in the local appropriation by the Edgecombe County Board of Commissioners could result in the loss of the ECPS teacher supplement and upwards of 50 staffing positions in 2017.

ECPS has been recently notified that the commissioners’ proposed budget (which will be voted on Monday, June 30, 2014) includes a $260,000 decrease in local funding. ECPS has since submitted the proposed local decrease into its low wealth funding formula provided by the State Department of Public Instruction.

The purpose of low wealth funding is to provide supplemental funds in counties that do not have the ability to generate revenue to support public schools (per a legislated formula) at the state average level. The funding is to allow those counties to enhance the instructional program and student achievement.  ECPS received over 3.5 million dollars in low wealth funding this past school year.

Low wealth funding formulas are based on the local appropriation from the commissioners. The county cut ECPS’s local appropriation last year by $318,052. If the county cuts the local appropriation (again) from $6,666,857 to $6,406,854 (by $260,000), then ECPS would lose ALL low wealth funding in 2017-18. In other words, if the county cuts ECPS $260,003 this year, this would actually be cutting an additional 3.5 million dollars for the 2017-18 academic year. (ECPS has conferred with NCDPI several times to confirm the accuracy of the figures.)

Low wealth funding is currently allocated in the following categories including 50 employees:  Teacher supplements, Technology technicians (7), Central office clerical (10), School bookkeepers (13), Data managers (14), School clerical (5), 1.5 Guidance counselor, 1 Media Certified staff, Substitute teachers, and School allotments for supplies.

If the commissioners support the $260,000 in cuts, this would be devastating to our teachers, students and parents.

The meeting of the Board of Commissioners is Monday, June 30th at 7:00 p.m. at 201 St. Andrews Street in Tarboro.

Charter schools’ records should not be shielded – News & Observer

Republican state Reps. Charles Jeter of Huntersville and David Lewis of Dunn are still new to the business of having real power in the General Assembly. So it’s perhaps understandable why they’d support some legislative moves that are embarrassingly wrong.

The problem is, their party now is in power, and so mistakes can become law.

The latest bad idea coming from Jeter and Lewis, is preposterous, and represents nothing less than a slap in the face to the taxpayers of North Carolina.

Jeter’s clumsy idea is to block the public reporting of charter school salaries by name. He introduced the bill. Lewis defends it by saying allowing the release of the information creates a “hostile work environment.” (Source: Read more)

Tarboro NC – Edgecombe County Board Of Commissioners Special Call Meeting Monday June 29, 2014

Sources say the Edgecombe County Board of Commissioners will meet on Monday June 29, 2014 7:00 PM to vote on the budget. You better attend to see what is going on for yourself. I understand the Edgecombe County Public Schools will be hit hard with cuts possibly eliminating 50 employees some from all areas from the local schools to the Central Office.

As you know The Daily Southerner shut down recently so will you get a complete coverage from the Rocky Mount Telegram. However I do plan to attend and capture the meeting via video.

Here I Go Again, Help A Brother Out!

While most folks are moving on to Tablets well I can’t. I have to have laptops to be able to make DVD’s and to use the software Corel and Livestream to put my videos on The DCN TV. Because I can’t afford to pay for the Livestream Premium Services, I am limited to Livestream features. My videos are not accessible on mobile devices.

Last year I had to replace 2 camcorders and I purchased 1 new one but I was unable to dub copies to my portable DVD player whereby I can make DVD’s anywhere, in my car or where ever I have access to an outlet. Since George Fisher, the one responsible for setting up my most recent blog and The DCN TV, I gave him that camera because he can dub our work on the computer.

I went online and I was able to purchase 2 used camcorders just like the 2 that I had that are no longer working.

Now one of my 2 laptops is no longer working and it is time to replace it.

Friends, associates and enemies I am seeking donations to help with purchasing a new laptop and to help with other expenses such as purchasing of DVDs, ink for printer, SD Cards for taking photos on my photo camera, gas and etc. I video and take photos of meetings and all other events and etc. I believe that we must capture history via video and photo.

I don’t advertise videos because I am not in the business of videoing for money. I video because I love what I do capturing history and making it available to others on The DCN TV for free because some folks don’t have the time to attend meetings and etc.

Tomorrow June 8, 2014 I plan to try to cover more events in the Tarboro area since the Daily Southerner has shut down.

All donations can be mailed to Curmilus Dancy @ P.O. Box 1391 Pinetops, North Carolina 27864.

Thanking you in advance.

Wilson NC: Sheriff responds to campaign attack – Wilson NC

The Political Agitator Response: It is sad when candidates have to spend time dealing with ignant racist ass folk. It is evident that Gardner is campaigning on don’t vote for this black man. Thank you Sheriff Woodard for your setting the record straight.

Incumbent Sheriff Calvin Woodard said there’s a lot about politics he wishes weren’t true.

“I really wish candidates didn’t have to raise money to run for office,” Woodard said Friday afternoon. “I like meeting and talking with the people of Wilson County. But I think campaigns should be based on the candidate’s platform. Unfortunately, there is the raising money portion of this.”

Woodard doesn’t believe the person with the biggest war chest is automatically victorious.

Woodard, a Democrat, faces Republican Joey Gardner in the November election.

“I think people want to know your work record, your history,” Woodard said. “I think the people of Wilson County believe in this office and believe in me and know I am dedicated to getting the job done.” (Source: Read more)
