And The Winner Is:

Coach Leshaun Jenkins  Hometown Tarboro NC   68.5 Nominated by Commissioner/Precinct Chair Viola Harris Tarboro
Martha Knight Johnson  Hometown Tarboro NC   47    Nominated by Precinct Chair Ernest Taylor Rocky Mount

County Officers that voted for Martha K. Johnson
Martha K. Johnson 1st Vice
Gladys Shelton 2nd Vice
Bronson Williams 3rd Vice/Precinct Chair 12-2 He chose to Vote as Precinct Chair so he could vote 6 votes versus 1 vote as 3rd Vice County Chair
However he could have given someone his Proxy to Vote in either capacity so could have really had 7 votes
Tamisha Patterson Secretary
Stephanie Hunter Treasurer

None of the County Officers responded when some of us, myself and some others reached out to them. Now I didn’t try to reach Shelton but could have easily done so by phone but I wanted to do it by internet.

It is sad that these County Officers voted to keep the party right where it was in a mess. This is important because when the Executive Committee is not in session the County Officers can meet and do business. This was the mentality that existed under the leadership of Rev. Roosevelt Higgs no meetings that we the Executive Committee was made aware of. When the County Officers meet they should make the entire Executive Committee although it would be up to the County Officers to allow the Executive Committee to speak during the meeting.

Until these County Officers show me publicly that they want to move the party forward with the rest of us who voted for change and to move forward, then I will look at them sideways.

Precinct Chairs
J.O. Williams, Jr.
Roy Gray
Mary Blackwell Hinton
Doris Howington 1 for Johnson 1.5 for Jenkins
Samuel Branch
Dorothy Tucker
Ernest Taylor
Bronson Williams
Lillie Worsley
Lovie A. Thomas for Evelyn Johnson – Wow Evelyn goes to the same church as Coach Jenkins.

Rev. J.O. Williams, Sr. and Rev. Roy Gray it is sad that you are the only Pastors that voted to hold the party right where it was. I hope you don’t make them kind of choices in your church.

I feel Mary Blackwell Hinton voted for her because they also serve on the Edgecombe County Human Relations Commission. But Martha was trying to keep her from being able to vote. Mary said that Higgs said he had the Precinct Meeting and she could not attend and Higgs said Martha could validate it because he gave her the information. She said she had no information. So that lead me to think that Precinct 4-1 where Mary Blackwell Hinton was the Chair and Rev. Roosevelt Higgs was the Vice Chair did not meet. And also the information should have been given to the Chair Mary Blackwell Hinton by Higgs.

I understand why Samuel Branch supported her because he, Martha and I used to have the same Pastor.

I understand why Dorothy Tucker may have supported her because I had to tell Jackie King that Martha was not the one several months ago.

Bronson I understand why he didn’t vote for Jenkins because he supported your opposition when you ran for mayor in Rocky Mount, Jenkins could not vote for you because he lives in Tarboro and even if he did, this was not about you but what was best for the entire county.

I have not seen Lillie Worsley in years so I don’t know her motive.

Can’t believe that Dr. Evelyn Johnson didn’t tell her proxy to vote for Jenkins. They go to the same church. But I understand that, that does not mean anything because Martha Knight Johnson is a Mother in my church.

Only a few Democrats know the role I played in all of this. I was working emails to the County Officers and they never responded. However the emails went to the petitioners for the removal of Higgs, 1st Congressional District Chair, State Chair, State Director and several others.

If anyone know me know that I put my all and all into organizations especially when I hold a title. I represent the county and not just myself so it ain’t about me. Actually I am going to be alright so I am here for the least of these.

I am challenging all Edgecombe County Democrats to let’s make some Good Trouble. It is about us first uniting and then go out and get good Good Democrats elected so we can defeat our opposition in November.

Now whatever you see me post I am speaking for Curmilus Butch Dancy II so don’t get it twisted it that I am speaking for you, you and you. However know that I am going to hold this Chair and everyone accountable for their actions. I have been doing just that since I joined the party so I am not stopping now. The Chair position changed but Curmilus Butch Dancy II passion for Edgecombe County Democrats and all folk in Edgecombe has not changed. My purpose is to help make Edgecombe County a better place to live, work and play.

Coach Leshaun Jenkins Voted Chair Of Edgecombe County Democratic Party To Replace Rev. Roosevelt Higgs Who Was Reprimanded By NC State Party

Congratulations Coach LeShaun Jenkins who defeated Martha Knight Johnson 1st Vice Chair and Acting Chair since Higgs was removed.

Tonight in a 3 hour ZOOM Virtual meeting the Edgecombe County Democratic Party Executive Committee met to elect a new chair.

Martha Knight Johnson was nominated by Precinct Chair Ernest Taylor 12-1 Rocky Mount NC Higgs guy.

Leshaun Jenkins was nominated by Precinct Chair 1-1/Edgecombe County Commissioner Viola Harris Tarboro NC.

After Johnson and Jenkins did their nomination speeches the committee voted to appoint Jenkins 68.5 to Johnson 47.

I had posted recently that I would love to see someone young outside of the Executive Committee especially the County Officers, someone that had a Political Science Degree in school or out. Wow! And then someone had reached out to Coach Jenkins. I heard from him just last night and I was excited that he was willing to seek the appointment.

I am disappointed in all of the County Officers 1st Vice Johnson for wanting to move up to chair when she has not done anything. I was disappointed in Gladys Shelton 2nd Vice, Bronson Williams 3rd Vice, Tamisha Dickens Patterson Secretary and Stephanie Hunter Treasurer for voting to not allow certain precincts to vote and then they all voted for Johnson. I will look at them sideways until they resign their posts. They need to resign because since Johnson has not done anything that means they have not. I was trying to give Dickens Patterson the benefit of the doubt since she was new to the party. Many on Executive Committee tried to make contact with these County Officers to receive no response. They were not even responding to the NC State Democratic Party Officers. Martha was only responding to Senator Don Davis 1st Congressional District Chair who facilitated the ZOOM meeting and did all of the damn work. The County Officers including Martha refused to respond to us. Oh she responded to certain folk because she had an agenda just like she did during the convention when she nominated herself for a position and we knew she was trying to keep some Democrats from voting attempting to steal the Democratic Party County Chair seat. But for the most part and especially some folk who I have been wondering when they would do the right thing and begin to see what I have been talking about for years and I am looking at those Democrats different now because it appears they have seen the light.

Somebody said that Coach Jenkins had not been to any party events. Well hell I don’t remember Dickens Patterson coming to anything but they supported her to be the county chair during the 2019 Convention but I was not there. So what is the damn difference with Coach Jenkins coming fresh? The best thing that could have happened in this season as we move forward.

I remember when Dr. Glenda Knight came seeking an office and I tried to tell her not to listen to Higgs. She lost. I remember when Bronson Williams came when he ran against Shelly Willingham and I told him he had not been coming to any events but he did anyway.

But it makes a difference how to do things. When Clee Atkinson was seeking the Sheriff appointment boy did he work the system and had the support. When Vila Anderson was seeking the Register of Deeds appointment both of these Democrats had not been to county events but it is how you work the system and have the support. When you have someone helping you and you are willing to listen, you can make moves. I am proud to have been able to vote for these 2 and now to add to the list I am proud to be able to vote to appoint Jenkins to County Chair.

This has been a long time coming. I have been fighting trying to keep the party in check over the years and I was made to be the bad guy. All I have wanted was for the party to be united and that meant holding folk accountable for their actions and I ask that they hold me accountable. My videos don’t lie.

This week has been a good week. On Monday I was granted a 1 year no contact order against Higgs because of his numerous nasty harassing phone calls to me about Deborah Faye Dew Jordan, Sara Peveler, African American Caucus, Democratic Women and the Wayne Goodwin NC State Democratic Party Chair.

I am ready to work with the new chair and good Democrats that do not want to leave any Democrat behind. I want to see the Edgecombe County Democratic Party move forward in unity and with a vision. There has been no vision over the past several years and it has been killing me.The vision of working towards November 3 is my focus.

I am challenging all Edgecombe County Democrats to reach out to Coach Leshaun Jenkins and give him your support. Find out how you can get involved in the Edgecombe County Democratic Party so that we can focus on the main thing as we work towards November.

The fight should be with the other party and not our party.

When We Unite We Win!

So What Do You Think About These Dollars The Mayoral Campaign In Rocky Mount NC Sandy Claus Roberson Delivered

I find it quite interesting that folk are talking about money and how they want unity in Rocky Mount. They don’t want to support the Black Majority Council. They want to control how they are governing. They don’t want to see anything all things Black on the Edgecombe County side of Rocky Mount.

So how much money was spent with Black Businesses during the Mayoral Campaign?

Sandy Claus could have blessed some Black Businesses or did he?

But see who Sandy Claus did bless last year.

In Response To Karen Lachapelle Response To Open Letter To Karen W. Lachapelle Health Director Questions Concerning A Pen With ECHD Letters & Telephone Number

Sunday July 26, 2020

Mrs. Lachapelle,

I am going to only share a few responses that I received because I think you should already know why this is a concern.

  1. I truly can’t find anything derogatory on this marker because they come in all colors and it’s a mop head marker. The question is at a time like this why this pen and if so why only blacks one if that’s the only color they gave out. I am not the sensitive kind who tries to find about small shit you truly can’t directly prove anything but you guys know the sentiment and attitude of the people over there so i can’t truly say it has a racist undertone
  2. Her response to me seems like every other response from racist white people who know that what they said or did was offensive but because someone called them out on it now they act as if it’s a surprise that someone is offended or they didn’t know it would be…
  3. Now They Are Erasing Us As Black People.
  4. Lots of unanswered questions about this!
  5. Hummmmm!!!! Sooo which 8th or 9th grader got the BLACK pen???clip_image002clip_image004clip_image006
  6. See the BS

Now I chose not to give my response when I first received the original request asking me what did I think about the pen and where it originated simply because if I had I would have created the narrative.

Now that I have received responses from others and more importantly from you, now I want to let you know my response to the pen.

First of all I am puzzled as to why this pen was chosen when we know that Black Folk in Edgecombe County are the main folk with more health issues be it Breast Cancer, HIV, now the Coronavirus and other as you are so well aware of it.

I find the pen to be very offensive because I could see it being laughable among some folk who are not Black that are employed at the Health Department and the County since again Black Folk are faced with more health issues than others.

Now after reading your response that the pens were purchased for Project REACH to provide Family Life Education to 8th and 9th graders I am having even a harder time understanding why this type of pen was purchased.

The following questions comes to mind so please can you help me to understand?

  1. I understand it comes in all colors so how was the pens used?
  2. Were they used to identify different races?
  3. If that be the case what colors were used to identity all the races included?
  4. Were the pens given to the students and/or the staff working with the families?

I want to close with I am aware of some issues and concerns as it relates to Edgecombe County Departments when it comes to racial issues. I received calls several months ago from Black and White employees and I have been just observing the atmosphere from a far. When it comes to folk dealing with issues in the workplace that can be very intimidating and a sense of fear due to possible retaliation for speaking out.

Thank you for your timely response to my previous email and I look forward to the response to the above.

Thanking you in advance.

Sincerely,

Curmilus Dancy II

Mr. Dancy

I offer my most sincere apology to anyone who may have been offended by the ink pen identified in your email.   It was not our intent to cause any one harm.  The pen identified along with others were purchased in various colors as an incentive for Project REACH.  Project REACH provided family life education to 8th and 9th graders in Edgecombe County Public Schools and North East Preparatory School.

It was our oversight and we did not recognize the potential to send a negative message or offend anyone.   The remaining pens have been discarded.

In our agency, we respect and value people of all races and ethnicities.  Again, it was never the intention of the Edgecombe County Health Department staff to offend anyone.

Hello,

I would love to know what was the logic behind ordering these pins.

I would love to know when they were purchased.

I would love to know with the climate today do you feel this is appropriate to be floating around Edgecombe County?

And lastly who have the Health Department given the pens to?

Thanking you in advance.

A copy of days ago I received the following. I called the number and by it being after hours it went straight to voicemail.

I was asked the following question and I asked others what they thought. I have not stated what I thought yet but I have found the following responses to be quite interesting especially those who thought the pen was directed towards me.

clip_image008Somebody sent me this and asked me what do I think about this. I had to call the number to see where this was and got a voicemail. I have an opinion but I want to hear what your opinion is. Folk send things anonymously to my Blog and I have to approve it before others can see it. I am doing a post about it because I was speechless. I also researched to see what colors and what is the name of this type of pen. If I receive more comments I will share them as they come in.

See Responses: Some folk used their names and some were anonymously. I will not share the names of any of the comments.

1. It’s not a pen I would use.

2. The depiction of the BLACK SAMBO

3. I can’t wait to read your write up on this one

4. Blackface, Is that Edgecome County Health Department?

5. clip_image010

6. Wtf?? That’s what I’m thinking

7. We Rising To The Top. clip_image012

8. Whoahhhhh

9. The n word bobble head, a disgrace to the human race

10. That’s the health dept number, like what year was this shit done, what the frekkin heck

11. This is someone’s idea of a joke. But it is not funny.

12. Racist

13. Black Sambo

14. Wow. Is it in reference to the “darkie” comment.

15. Hey Bro. Not only would I NOT sport that pen, but I would think that any white person sporting it was a racist. Whoever sent it to you either ain’t woke or they were deliberately trying to rankle you. They know who you are. In fact, I wouldn’t even give them the satisfaction of acknowledging that I got it. Force them to follow up, and keep ignoring them. That’s how you win that game! They’re seeking exposure, so they can have a good private laugh. That’s how racist bullies operate.

16. Good morning! What’s up with the ECHD pens? smh

17. Looks like a Tar Baby

18. This is a black folks pen

19. Wow!

20. Wow. Is it in reference to the “darkie” comment.

21. I am not offended – albeit lacks taste with pigment color. It would be offensive If they also used big Red lips. The hair is how many are wearing it these days. The coal black color is a bit ignorant and likely a nice marketing person missing the point

22. Hey sir, there is a website called 4imprint.com that have a similar pin with a white face. To me it looks like some racial narrative of the 50s and 60s and now it’s here in 2020. Looks they are trying to use this emoji as a symbol of blacks being inferior. Just my thoughts sir. https://www.4imprint.com/product/154847-24HR/Thumbs-Up-MopTopper-Stylus-Pen-24-hr

clip_image014

23. Yes there is some ish behind this, If I was at work I would look it up but I won’t be back in until Monday

24. What comes to mind is there are some who continue to advocate for the death of those Living While Black.

25. Dang! Reminds me of a Little Black Sambo doll (head, hair and face) from the 50s when I was a kid. Also reminds me of the “Buckwheat” character from the Little Rascals. I see the phone number is for the Edgecombe County Health Department. I saw all the other colors … are they supposed to represent different races? That’s some story come crap to have your name on in 2020! Did we spend taxpayer money on that?

Thanking you in advance.

Sincerely,

The Church Has Got To Accept Some Responsibility – Hell I Been Saying That Since The Late 80’s Early 90’s

This Pastor gets it! What are the Pastors in your community saying? Oh they talking about why folk talking about the COVID-19 and mad when folk challenge the church. Many of them are worrying about going back in the church, worrying about the Tithes/Offerings.

Oh they are ready to preach your love ones funeral and get paid but what did they say and do before then?

It is time for the Church to get it right.

Homegoing Celebration For Stoney L. Battle Rocky Mount NC

imageClick On Photo To View More Information

Stoney was a fine brother and he was the same everytime I seen him. He would always give me some encouraging words when I was in his presence especially when I attended the Rocky Mount City Council meetings and he was working the door and/or the room.

I didn’t know that Stoney and I was the same age until someone told me the other day that they went to school together and they came out in 1981. Now reading this I seen he was born on the day before Christmas in 1962 and I was born the next day Christmas Day 1962 and also graduated in 1981.

Condolences goes out to the family of the late Stoney L. Battle.

These Pastors Comments Tickles The Hell Out Of Me!

I posted this on Thursday July 23, 2020 and I know I who will respond indirectly because they can’t handle being challenged. But obviously they feel guilty. But you see I ain’t scared to post them trues and see how they come for me indirectly. I am just responding to what they say but then they get mad. Now I know some of them real good and boy do they have an attitude problem. But what they need to recognize and understand is just because I post it here, don’t think that I don’t talk to folk and they are watching you and watching me and they say things. Some folk don’t say things publicly but I do and I get credit for a lot of things that others say however we be in agreement so therefore I can post it without fear of the comeback. Folk delete me because I am sick and tired of being sick and tired of folk misleading folk and thinking they can say anything but folk can’t respond to them. If you don’t want to see what I am saying you better Unfriend and/or Block me now.

These Pastors comments tickles the hell out of me!

Folk you better use Common Sense.

They have Bible Study and a Church Service on Sunday but do nothing for the people on other days but talk about what the folk are talking about.

So damn glad I know the man for myself and don’t have to rely on Pastor to tell me what, when and how much I can talk about anything.

Pastors what about your hurting congregation, the sick, the unemployed, the schools reopen dilemma?

Do you go to meetings?

No!

Talk to me.

Now Run, Run and Tell That!

While we are busy navigating the challenges of public health, businesses and school re-openings and legislating for equity in criminal justice, we are also continuing to invest in our rural infrastructure.

Water infrastructure is critical in Eastern North Carolina to make sure our water is clean, our natural resources are protected, and our businesses can grow. We need more of this type of investment. That is why I support state bond proposals to allow the voters to take advantage of low interest rates to approve new investments in public school buildings, transportation projects, and clean water infrastructure.

Although I am not elected by all of these regions (below), I do champion regional infrastructure development and want to share these recently announced projects in our region funded by the State Water Infrastructure Authority.

Edgecombe County Public Schools Plan For 2020 2021 School Year

Edgecombe County Public Schools

Message from Superintendent Dr. Valerie H. Bridges

Hello ECPS families,

We hope you and your family have had an enjoyable summer. We have missed you and are looking forward to welcoming our students back to learning.

I want to start by thanking you for your strength, patience and feedback during this challenging time. We all share the same goal: ensuring our students have access to a high-quality education in a safe, healthy learning environment. Our district and school leaders have worked long, hard hours for weeks to ensure we accomplish this goal.

Our board has approved a plan for our district for the beginning of the 2020 – 2021 school year. All students and parents will be invited to attend an in-person orientation during the first week of school. During weeks 2 – 6, the majority of our students will learn remotely. After four weeks, we will review current Covid-19 metrics to make a plan for the second six weeks. Some students who receive specialized education services may have the opportunity to receive these services in-person. Your child’s school will be in contact with you if this is the case. We plan to transition to in-person classes when it is safe to do so. When in-person classes resume, families may choose to remain with an online learning plan if they are not ready to send their students back to the school building.
During the remote learning phase of our plan, students will engage in a combination of virtual learning led by a teacher, independent online learning, and offline learning.

The first day for all traditional schools and iZone schools (Coker-Wimberly, Phillips, North Edgecombe) is scheduled for August 17, 2020. Edgecombe Early College High School’s first day will be August 6, 2020. Someone from your student’s school will reach out to you to schedule your in-person orientation.

The health, safety and well-being of our students and staff were our top priority as we made these decisions. Please know that we did not do so lightly. We do not have every answer and we will likely need to make adjustments as we go, but we are committed to learning and improving together.
In Edgecombe County Public Schools, we are committed to ensuring:

— Students feel a strong sense of connection and belonging, even in a remote environment
— School is increasingly learner-centered
— Families feel as though they are working in partnership with ECPS
— Students master the most important learning objectives and make strong academic growth
— Student and staff well-being is a top priority across the district

We will be sharing additional details in the coming days. Please visit our website at www.ecps.us for updated information.

I know that together, we can ensure our students return to learning SAFE, STRONG and READY!

House votes to remove Confederate statues from Capitol

Democrats touted the bill as a way to honor the late civil rights icon Rep. John Lewis.

The House voted overwhelmingly Wednesday to remove Confederate statues from the Capitol, the latest effort by Congress to respond to the nationwide protests over systemic racism and injustice.

The bill would remove the bust of Chief Justice Roger B. Taney from the Old Supreme Court Chamber, in the Capitol. Taney authored the Dred Scott decision in 1857, which declared African Americans couldn’t be citizens and was later widely panned. The Taney bust would be replaced with a statue of Thurgood Marshall, the first African American Supreme Court justice.

The legislation would also remove three statues of Americans who promoted slavery and white supremacy — Charles Aycock, John C. Calhoun, and James Paul Clarke — and require states to reclaim and replace their Confederate statues in the Capitol. There are 12 Confederate statues in the Capitol collection. (Read more)

Open Letter To County Manager Eric Evans & Edgecombe County Commissioners Monthly Meetings Audio Is Horrible

Today I attended the virtual meeting of the Edgecombe County Board of Elections via ZOOM. I was real impressed with the format that they used on ZOOM where you could tune in online. However you could call in too.

The quality of the sound of the meeting was awesome. I loved the opportunity to be able to listen in via ZOOM online versus calling in on my cell phone.

I am requesting that you use the same format that the Board of Elections used during their meeting because it would be so much better.

Nearly all of the County Commissioners meetings the quality of the sound has been horrible and we deserve better.

Mr. County Manager please make the necessary adjustments for the upcoming August Commissioner’s meeting please sir.

Thanking you in advance!

Can businesses refuse to serve customers who don’t wear masks?

Most businesses across the U.S. have reopened after temporary shutdown orders from state governments earlier this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Differing requirements across cities and states are often unclear, and many people are making personal decisions about when and where to wear masks.

While many businesses are encouraging customers to wear face coverings and to adhere to social distancing guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19, some are requiring patrons to wear them.

Costco is among the retailers with such a requirement. The wholesale corporation began enforcing the policy on May 4.

About two weeks after announcing the mask requirement, a video of a Costco employee repeatedly asking a customer to leave a Colorado store went viral. The customer wasn’t wearing a face covering and said he made the choice because he “woke up in a free country.”

“We know some members may find this inconvenient or objectionable, but under the circumstances we believe the added safety is worth any inconvenience. This is not simply a matter of personal choice; a face covering protects not just the wearer, but others too,” Costco President and CEO Craig Jelinek said in a statement. “Although some may disagree with this policy or question its effectiveness, we’re choosing to err on the side of safety in our shopping environments … We believe this simple act of safety and courtesy is one that Costco members and employees can undertake together.”

What if you don’t want to wear a mask? Can you be denied service? Is it against your rights as an American citizen to be turned away?

Live updates: U.S. reports more than 1,000 coronavirus deaths in a day for first time since early June

The United States recorded more than 1,000 deaths Tuesday, for the first time since June 2 when 1,052 fatalities were reported. The average number of daily deaths has been rising for most of July, according to data compiled and analyzed by The Washington Post, and Tuesday’s milestone undercuts President Trump’s claim of a fast-falling mortality rate.

Trump on Tuesday struck a more pessimistic tone than usual about the spread of the coronavirus in the United States, while maintaining that progress is being made toward a vaccine and therapeutics.

“It will probably, unfortunately, get worse before it gets better,” he told reporters at a coronavirus briefing held at the White House. “Something I don’t like saying about things, but that’s the way it is.”

Here are some significant developments:

Scientists say COVID-19 temperature checks are not reliable and might do more harm than good: report
