Fahnestock to take police chief post in Fuquay-Varina – Rocky Mount Telegram

The Political Agitator response: Captain Fahnestock always appeared to be professional and a very nice person whenever I was in her presence.

A veteran Rocky Mount police captain was named the new police chief in Fuquay-Varina on Thursday.

Laura Fahnestock has been with the Rocky Mount Police Department for 24 years, working her way up through the ranks to become the first female lieutenant and captain of the department. She currently is captain over patrol services, supervising more than 100 sworn officers.

“The city of Rocky Mount is to be commended for providing Laura with the opportunities to position herself to take on the responsibilities of the police chief position,” said Fuquay-Varina Mayor John W. Byrne in a press release. “Laura brings a record of effective and collaborative leadership and a commitment to innovative policing with a strong emphasis on community policing.” (Source: Read more)

Loretta Lynch North Carolina Native Becomes The First African American Female To Serve As Attorney General Of The United States

The Political Agitator response: It is about time. This should have taken place long before now however today is another historical moment in history.

Congressman G.K. Butterfield released the following statement: Today is a historic day for our country as Loretta Lynch, a North Carolina native, becomes the first African American female to serve as our nation’s top law enforcement official. Her experience and qualifications will be of great value as she leads the Justice Department in defending the abiding principles of the U.S. Constitution. Ms. Lynch is the choice of President Obama, she is the choice of the Congressional Black Caucus, and she is the best choice for all Americans. I applaud today’s confirmation of Loretta Lynch as the next Attorney General of the United States of America.
