Johns Hopkins Faces $1B Lawsuit for STD Experiments on People of Color; U.S. Lawsuit Dismissed

Blacks have been the guinea pigs of Western medical experiments for centuries now.

One of the more prominent experiments (that the public is aware of) was the Tuskegee syphilis experiment from the 1930s. Scientists studied poor Blacks in Alabama who’d contracted the venereal disease, but did not tell them they had the disease or do anything to cure them.

A similar study has come to the forefront and it involves one of the nation’s most prestigious medical institutions, John Hopkins University.  A lawsuit filed in April alleges Johns Hopkins University and the Rockefeller Foundation helped conduct similar experiments in Guatemala from 1945 to 1956. Church Folk Is Drinking A Sin In The Bible?

Is it stated in the bible that drinking is a sin? Now don’t get it twisted just like there are scriptures such as thou shall not kill, steal, fornicate, commit adultery and etc. is it in the bible thou shall not drink? I don’t want to hear your interpretations of scriptures and your opinion on whether you think it is or not, I want to know what the bible says.

Okay been talking about this for a little over a month now during our bible study. One deacon was to bring back some information to the next bible study and others were asked to research as well.

We discussed the issue of drinking during bible study on this past Wednesday night and we came to the conclusion that it is not stated in the bible thou shall not gamble. Now we all know that drinking can be a bad thing but so can eating among other things.

My point is that the church spend too much time trying to condemn folk saying it is biblical and they can not prove it by showing it in the bible. Condemning it per one belief and from experience is one thing but to say it is in the bible is another.

Why are churches always talking about drinking when there are things going on in the church that are clearly spelled out in the bible but you don’t want to touch that? Okay I know the church and Christians are not perfect but the goal is to work towards perfection. How can that be when you allow things to go on knowing it ain’t right and never address it because don’t want to hurt brother, sister, mother, deacon other titles and pastor feelings? Oh so you want them to die and go to hell living a sinful life when you know that you need to go to them and talk to them about what they are doing. Well many don’t want to go because they may have some baggage of their own. We all got something but when we hold each other accountable for our actions, we can move onward toward perfection.

Folk there is nothing to debate about is drinking a sin. It is no more than going out buying an expensive car, house, dinner and etc.

You ain’t winning souls by talking ignant about what is not in the bible.

Yes a Christian can encourage others to try to live right and that is a good thing but just don’t say the bible said.

Duke Energy Progress Completes Purchase of NCEMPA Generation Assets

§  NCEMPA generating assets purchased by Duke Energy Progress for
$1.25 billion

§  Purchase provides long-term fuel savings for Duke Energy Progress customers

§  Sale of assets will reduce NCEMPA outstanding debt by more than 70 percent

RALEIGH – Following a year of regulatory reviews, approvals and legislative action, Duke Energy Progress and the North Carolina Eastern Municipal Power Agency (NCEMPA) today completed the approximately $1.25 billion sale of NCEMPA’s generating assets to Duke Energy Progress.

The agreement provides positive benefits to both Duke Energy Progress customers and NCEMPA members.

“This purchase will provide long-term fuel savings for Duke Energy Progress customers, and provide an important economic benefit to Eastern North Carolina,” said Paul Newton, Duke Energy president – North Carolina. “The agreement represents the best spirit of private and public sectors working together toward a common goal. I am very proud of what we have achieved for our respective customers and for the citizens of our state.”

“Today marks the beginning of a new day for NCEMPA member communities,” said Graham Edwards, ElectriCities CEO. “The asset sale and its rate impacts are the culmination of years of hard work by many people. We initially estimated this sale to take nearly two years to complete, yet were able to close months ahead of schedule. With the support of the General Assembly and the governor, as well as the diligent work of our members and Duke Energy Progress, the transaction is now complete.”

Prior to the sale, NCEMPA maintained partial ownership interest in several Duke Energy Progress plants, including Brunswick Nuclear Plant Units 1 and 2 (Brunswick County), Mayo Plant (Person County), Roxboro Plant Unit 4 (Person County) and the Harris Nuclear Plant (Wake County).

NCEMPA’s ownership interest in these plants represented approximately 700 megawatts of generating capacity. 

The $1.25 billion purchase price includes NCEMPA’s ownership interest in the plants, fuel inventories, and spare parts as well as certain adjustments set forth in the asset purchase agreement.

NCEMPA members’ distribution assets are not part of the agreement, and will continue to be owned and maintained by those members.

Under the terms of the agreement, Duke Energy Progress and NCEMPA have entered into a 30-year wholesale power supply agreement to continue meeting the needs of NCEMPA customers previously served by the agency’s interest in Duke Energy Progress’ plants. Power sales under this supply agreement commenced immediately upon closing.

Duke Energy Progress and NCEMPA first announced the agreement on July 28, 2014. Completion of the transaction required regulatory action by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and N.C. Utilities Commission.

On April 2, 2015, legislation was signed that provided a means for Duke Energy Progress to finance the full cost of the asset acquisition. NCEMPA received legislative approval to refinance its remaining debt obligations after the completion of this transaction.

Sen. The agreement also required the approval of NCEMPA’s 32 member utilities.

Tarboro pushes economic development projects – Rocky Mount Telegram

TARBORO – Additional employment, a new downtown project and a marketing strategy to help the retail sector are just a few of the economic development endeavors going on in Tarboro.

Tarboro Town Manager Al Thornton said the town works closely with Carolinas Gateway Partnership, the local public and private recruitment agency, to foster economic development in Tarboro. The expansion of General Foam Plastics Corp. is one of the area’s recent success stories, Thornton said.

Tarboro acquired a $1 million grant from the N.C. Department of Commerce in April to help the General Foam expand. In exhange, the company is obligated to hire 100 full-time workers, Thornton said. General Foam Plastics also is investing $2.3 million in machinery and equipment at the Daniel Drive facility in Tarboro. (Source: Read more)
