Mike Pence subpoenaed by special counsel investigating Trump’s Jan. 6 role: reports

Pence was reportedly amenable to considering the DOJ’s request to sit down and talk, the New York Times reported in November.

A spokesperson for Pence did not respond to The Post’s request for comment.

Trump’s former No. 2 in November condemned the ex-president’s actions on Jan. 6, 2021 and said they “endangered me and my family and everyone at the Capitol building” during the riot.

“The president’s words were reckless and his actions were reckless,” Pence told ABC’s David Muir, explaining that he was inside the Capitol Building with his daughter when rioters stormed the building.

“It was clear he decided to be part of the problem,” insisted Pence in a blunt account of his anger from that day. (Source)

Judge says Trump may have been urging supporters to ‘do something more’ than protest on Jan. 6

WASHINGTON — A federal judge indicated Wednesday that then-President Donald Trump’s remarks on Jan. 6, 2021, telling a crowd to "fight like hell" before the Capitol attack could have signaled to his supporters that he wanted them "to do something more" than just protest.

In a court order in the case against Jan. 6 defendant Alexander Sheppard, U.S. District Judge John Bates ruled that Sheppard could not raise the "public authority" defense at trial after his lawyer argued Trump had authorized his client’s actions at the Capitol that day.

Bates, who was appointed to the court by President George W. Bush, rejected that argument, ruling that "President Trump neither stated nor implied that entering the restricted area of the Capitol grounds and the Capitol building or impeding the certification of the electoral vote was lawful" and that therefore a public authority defense was not viable.

"These words only encourage those at the rally to march to the Capitol — nothing more — and do not address legality at all. But, although his express words only mention walking down Pennsylvania Avenue to the Capitol, one might conclude that the context implies that he was urging protestors to do something more — perhaps to enter the Capitol building and stop the certification," Bates wrote.

In a footnote, Bates noted that his ruling was . . . (Source)

Eastern North Carolina Civic Group Statement on Violence

Amid a highly contested Midterm primary, the executive committee of the Eastern North Carolina Civic Group (ENCCG), the state’s oldest civic and service network comprised of counties in North Carolina including portions of the 1st Congressional District, with the full approval of that body, is compelled to urge leaders in our Nation’s Capital to use the fullest extent of the law to ensure those elected leaders who conspired against this country on January 6th are brought to justice.

In light of the January 6th hearings and the information that has come to light in response to the violence occurring across the country, ENCCG is requesting all elected members of Congress in violation of their oath of office to be removed from office and suspended from running for any elected position for one term of their respective office that being two years in the house and six years in the Senate. If convicted through the investigation by any congressional or judicial body, based on the constitution, said individuals should be removed permanently from office and not be allowed to serve in an elected capacity again.

Even though there were several levels of government officials present, the violation of oath of office through conspiring to overthrow the United States government from a congressional official is the primary concern for protecting of our democracy. January 6 Hearings If This Had Been About A Black President’s Actions We Would Be Talking About How Many Black Folk Were Killed On That Day

I watched the January 6 Hearing on Thursday Night and everybody that seen what I seen out to be mad as hell and should be demanding that Donald J. Trump be arrested immediately.

I watched the January 6 Hearing and what I continue to hear ringing in my ears is how they kept saying Trump started the mess. It is more clear that he is solely responsible for making this day a living hell for so many folk.

Look at the January 6 Hearings for yourself because if you can look at this and not say that this is implorable then you have a serious problem.

I look forward to watching the upcoming January 6 Hearings because I want to see it all. The footage that I seen on Thursday gave me an even deeper perspective on what Trump has done to America.

Now you all can put more focus on Black on Black Crime/Shootings than White Shootings and the January 6 Hearing all you want, but for me it is the latter 2.

Well the other scheduled hearings are during the day so I will have to look at them at night.

Jan. 6 committee hearing schedule: Here’s what we know about the upcoming Jan. 6 hearings

Nash County man charged with assaulting officers on Jan. 6 accused of violating pretrial release terms

The DCN News Blog Online TV response: Getting closer and closer to home. I been waiting for all those involved to be named.

MIDDLESEX, N.C. — A 21-year-old from Middlesex charged in connection with the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection at the U.S. Capitol is accused of violating the terms of his pretrial release.

NBC affiliate WCNC reports Matthew Jason Beddingfield went to a restaurant with his mother, an undisclosed location and drove by his father’s house. As part of his pretrial release supervision program, Beddingfield wasn’t allowed to see his father, who reportedly went with Beddingfield to the Capitol.

WCNC reports Beddingfield was only allowed to go to and from work and was under the supervision of his grandfather.

Federal court documents say that Matthew Jason Beddingfield jumped over a barricade on the grounds of the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, and charged toward a group of Capitol police officers. He attacked one of the officers, "jabbing at them with a metal flag pole he brought with him," the court records said.

The federal government obtained several videos and pictures of Beddingfield, all from different angles, that show him holding an American flag and using it to harm Capitol police. Beddingfield was also among a group for rioters who entered the Capitol through a door on the upper west terrace. (Read more)

Why one evangelical pastor left a radicalized, post-Jan. 6 America behind

The DCN News Blog Online TV response: This is what we need more of folk realizing that it is time to stop the foolishness and start doing what is right about all folk.

ABERDEEN, Scotland — Jared Stacy had made the decision to leave his job as youth pastor at Spotswood Baptist Church in Fredericksburg, Virginia, just a week before the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol in Washington.

Disillusioned with his church and the increasingly conservative and nationalist nature of the broader evangelical Christian community to which he had dedicated his life, he was prepared to move with his wife and three children 3,500 miles away to the weather-beaten northeast of Scotland for a new start.

With their bags packed, Stacy watched the riot unfold, recognizing some of the Christian and evangelical language and imagery wielded by some protesters. He said he saw it as further proof that then-President Donald Trump had taken on a saintly status among some evangelicals.

“When your God loses, you have to find a way to get him back on top,” he said. “The whole idea was his man was supposed to be in the White House. What do you do when your God loses?”

Stacy, 31, is one of a small but growing number of younger evangelical Christians who have left what they see as a religious community led astray from its faith by a fervent strain of Trump-based politics. He and other former evangelicals warn that in a post-Jan. 6 world, the movement faces a challenge in attracting and keeping young, progressive Christians alienated by its relationship with conservative politics. Ginni Thomas, wife of Clarence Thomas, attended rally preceding Capitol attack

Virginia “Ginni” Thomas, wife of the supreme court justice Clarence Thomas, has admitted attending a rally which preceded the January 6 attack on the US Capitol but denied helping to plan it.

In an interview with the Washington Free Beacon, Thomas, a conservative activist who runs a political lobbying firm, said she briefly attended the rally near the White House on 6 January 2021 but left before Donald Trump addressed the crowd.

Trump used his address to tell supporters to “fight like hell” in support of his lie that his defeat by Joe Biden was the result of electoral fraud. A bipartisan Senate report said seven deaths were connected to the assault on Congress which followed.

Thomas said brief attendance at the rally was the full extent of her involvement.

“I was disappointed and frustrated that there was violence that happened following a peaceful gathering of Trump supporters on the Ellipse on 6 January,” she told the Free Beacon, a conservative site. (Read more)

Middlesex man awaiting trial in local attempted murder case charged with assaulting police during Capitol riot

The DCN News Blog Online TV response: Getting closer and closer to Rocky Mount and Edgecombe County. I’ll wait!

MIDDLESEX — An attempted murder suspect has been charged by the FBI in connection to the riot at the U.S. Capitol a year ago.

Matthew Jason Beddingfield, 21, is accused of assaulting police officers with a metal flag pole during the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection at the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington, D.C..

Three weeks ago, The Enterprise ran photos and a report in the print edition, online and Facebook about the FBI looking for Capitol rioters. Photos of a young man with a flag — who federal agents now identify as Beddingfield — have been circulating online since the riot. WRAL-TV had footage of Beddingfield from 2019 when he’s accused of shooting a teenager in the head at a Walmart in Johnston County.

Beddingfield was on bail awaiting trial on the attempted murder charge when he is accused of going to Washington, D.C., to participate in the political violence. (Read more)

Today marks one year since the deadly Capitol insurrection

The Political Agitator’s response: If this had been Black folk storming the White House we would be talking about countless deaths and injuries because they would have been shot and jailed. There would not be an insurrection committee.

Rep. Bennie Thompson, chairman of the Jan. 6 House select committee, said the committee is investigating individuals who tried to change the 2020 election outcome and that the panel still needs to talk to "quite a few people."

"I can tell you that we are learning that individual’s conspired to change the outcome of the election. And that is very concerning, that they used assets of the federal government to try and promote the big lie. That they intimidated state officials toward the big lie," Thompson said during a CNN special with Anderson Cooper and Jake Tapper.

Thompson made it clear the committee is very interested in the attempts to use the power of the federal government to attempt to prevent the peaceful transfer of power.

“We have to tell that story. We’ll be able to document it. And I am concerned that even the replacement of certain people, to accomplish the big lie, was under consideration,” Thompson said. "So, the vice chair and I have joined together to make sure democracy stands in this country."

Thompson and Rep. Liz Cheney, vice chair of the Jan. 6 select committee, said they still believe there is a chance they will be able to conclude that the actions of former President Trump and some of his associates constitute a crime. (Read more)

January 6, 2021 Upcoming Anniversary

It is a shame that we have to look forward to much attention being put on the upcoming January 6 anniversary from the Trump Riot on the White House. This was an insurrection but they don’t want to call it what it was.

It is sad that Trump supporters took the 2020 Elections to a whole new level when they didn’t want to accept that Trump lost. It was sad that he had won 4 years before that and he didn’t want to go home. He didn’t have to go home but he had to go from the People’s House.

The election of Trump was a wake up call to let folk know what the state of America was in. Trump becoming President was the best thing that could have happened in a sense because it showed some folk who they worked with, who their neighbors were and even where some family members stood.

I wanted Trump to win because I said that it would wake up some folk and that he would take us to the bottom. Well in my opinion he took America below the bottom.

I don’t hear folk talking about the good that Trump did while in office whatever that was, but all I hear is what did happen under his Presidential term. The Pandemic and the January 6, 2021 has been in the news and will continue to be for a long time. But the sad part is after all of that some of his supporters still support him. Well I guess to change now would show they supported a fool and that it would make them look foolish so may as well continue to support him. Or does it speak highly of his supporters that they are showing just who they are.

It is good to see those who participated in the January 6 Trump Insurrection being charged. I hope that don’t stop until they charge all that were involved. It makes no sense a bunch of grown folk carrying out such a mess. But the sad part folk don’t want to talk about that but they want to talk about crime locally. Well let’s talk about crime at every level.

So anybody that don’t want to talk about the January 6 Insurrection don’t talk to me about crime on the local and state level.

I will continue to see how the January 6 Trump Riot on the White House unfold and will be waiting to see when he will be charged. I’ll wait!

DC attorney general sues far-right groups over Jan. 6 attack

Washington, D.C. Attorney General Karl Racine (D) on Tuesday filed a federal lawsuit against far-right groups Proud Boys and Oath Keepers over their role in the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol.

The 84-page civil complaint, which also lists dozens of individuals, alleges violations of local D.C. and federal laws, including a statute stemming from the 1871 Ku Klux Klan Act, which targets violent conspiracies.

“The images of that shameful and contemptible day can never be erased,” Racine said at a press conference announcing the lawsuit. “It was like 9-11, a planned terrorist attack, but this time, our own citizens were hell bent on destroying the freedoms and ideals on which our country was founded, and continues to aspire to achieve.”

The lawsuit, filed in a Washington, D.C.-based federal court, seeks unspecified amounts of money damages from the defendants for what Racine described as “restitution and recompense” for the injuries inflicted in the attack.

“I can guarantee you that as we proceed, we are going to seek the maximum level of financial penalty,” Racine said in response to a question from a reporter. (Read more)

Jan. 6 PowerPoint: What we know and what we don’t about a pro-Trump election plot

The Political Agitator’s response: All of the head gang leaders in this need to be charged and made to name all who were involved that were not captured on video on this ignant day in history. If this was lead by Black gang leaders we would be at war on Black folk. Mark Meadows NC imagine that.

A conspiratorial PowerPoint presentation that offered suggestions for how the Trump administration could move to overturn the 2020 election results is getting new attention after former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows submitted similar slides to the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol.

The exact origins of the 36-page PowerPoint document are unknown. It appears to have first surfaced online in full in early January. Ahead of Jan. 6 — when a mob of pro-Trump supporters tried to disrupt the electoral vote count formalizing Joe Biden’s victory in the presidential election before a joint session of Congress — the presentation was one of a handful of documents that outlined a rationale for overturning the election or disregarding the results that were written and circulated by allies of President Donald Trump or by people sympathetic to his baseless claims of fraud.

The PowerPoint presentation and its allegations and assertions were promoted by ardent supporters of Trump who have repeatedly spread falsehoods about the election.

Here’s what we know — and what we don’t know — about the presentation, its contributors and who may have seen it.

There are two PowerPoints?

Most likely yes, but the material appears similar.

In a letter to Meadows on Wednesday, Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., the chair of the Jan. 6 committee, referred to an email on Jan. 5 about a 38-page PowerPoint briefing titled "Election Fraud, Foreign Interference & Options for JAN 6." (Read more)

Trump plans to sue to keep White House records on Capitol attack secret

The Political Agitator’s response: So why does Trump want to block the records if he feels like the attack was justifiable? I’ll wait!

Donald Trump is preparing to sue to block the release of White House records from his administration to the House select committee scrutinizing the 6 January attack on the Capitol by claiming executive privilege, potentially touching off an extended legal battle over disclosure.

The former president also expects top aides – former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, deputy chief of staff Dan Scavino, strategist Steve Bannon and defense department aide Kash Patel – to defy select committee subpoenas for records and testimony.

Trump’s moves to try to resist the select committee, informed by a source familiar with his planning, are likely to lead to constitutional clashes in court that would test the power of Congress’s oversight authority over the executive branch.

The former president said in recent days that he would cite executive privilege to thwart House select committee investigators seeking to compel his top aides to testify about 6 January and what he knew of plans to stop the certification of Joe Biden’s election win.

But the sharpening contours of Trump’s intention to stonewall the select committee mark a new turning point as he seeks to keep a grip on the rapidly escalating investigation into the events of 6 January that left five dead and about 140 others injured. (Read more)

Jan. 6 House panel subpoenas Trump allies Bannon, Meadows, 2 more

The Political Agitator’s response: I am waiting for them to subpoena Trump himself. Get to the root of this Trumpidity.

The House select committee investigating the deadly Jan. 6 riot at the US Capitol issued subpoenas to four key allies of former President Donald Trump Thursday, with the committee’s chairman instructing them to sit for depositions next month.

Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) announced that former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, former chief strategist Steve Bannon, former Deputy Chief of Staff for Communications Dan Scavino and former Pentagon official Kash Patel had been subpoenaed because they all were working in or had communicated with the White House either in the days leading up to the riot or on the day itself.

In letters to all four men, Thompson said that the committee is investigating “the facts, circumstances, and causes” of the riot, which led to the deaths of five people. In a letter to Meadows, Thompson cited reports that the then-chief of staff “engaged in multiple elements of the planning and preparation of efforts to contest the presidential election and delay the counting of electoral votes.
