Curmilus, last Wednesday I delivered a speech calling on my colleagues in the State Senate to finally pass Medicaid expansion — and we did, by a vote of 44 to 1. I was proud to vote YES for legislation that will save lives, prevent our rural hospitals from closing, and provide affordable health care to more than 600,000 North Carolinians. It wasn’t easy getting the bipartisan support we needed to pass this in the Senate, and it certainly took time — years, unfortunately, to negotiate. Change doesn’t happen overnight, it’s true. But change doesn’t happen at all if you aren’t willing to fight for it. I’ve spent years encouraging my colleagues across the aisle to come to the table, and negotiate Medicaid expansion. I’m proud we finally have a real chance at closing the health care coverage gap. This is exactly the type of work I will do in Congress — bringing folks across party lines together to solve real problems like health care affordability. I support Don Davis 100%. I have worked with Davis for years. I have held him accountable for his actions and we have agreed to disagree. But at the end of the day, I have agreed with more than what I have disagreed with. I have not agreed with everybody all the time even family but when you can move forward that is what it is all about. I look forward to working with Congressman Don Davis.
