Eight Twin Counties teams advance to state playoffs – Rocky Mount Telegram

Southern Nash’s football team won’t have any problems finding game tape of its first playoffs opponent.

The Big East Conference-winning Firebirds will take on conference rival Northern Nash this Friday, creating a rematch of the season finale between the two teams last week.

Eight Twin Counties squads advanced to the postseason after the North Carolina High School Athletic Association released its playoff seeding on Saturday. All four of the Nash County schools in the Big East — Southern Nash, Rocky Mount High, Nash Central and Northern Nash — landed in the 3-A bracket. SouthWest Edgecombe, which shook off a 1-5 start to win the Eastern Plains Conference and earn an automatic bid, will start at home in the 2-AA field. North Edgecombe and Rocky Mount Prep represent the Two Rivers 1A Conference in 1-A while the conference champ, Tarboro, is in 1-AA. All games will take place on Friday at 7:30 p.m. (Read more)
