 ECPS Announces Leadership Changes

For immediate release on July 7, 2015

Tarboro, NC – The Edgecombe County Board of Education recently approved several leadership changes, including an assignment of a district-level leader and new Principals for three schools.

Marc Whichard has been named Executive Director of Human Resources. Whichard joined Edgecombe County Public Schools (ECPS) in 1998 as a teacher at Tarboro High School. He has served as Assistant Principal at SouthWest Edgecombe High School and Principal of Martin Middle School. Most recently, he served as Principal of SouthWest Edgecombe High School.

Edgecombe County Public Schools has provided me with many rewarding experiences over the years,” said Whichard.  “I have enjoyed working with our various communities and look forward to the new experiences in my current role.”

Craig Harris will return to SouthWest Edgecombe High School as the school’s Principal. Harris previously served as Assistant Principal at SouthWest Edgecombe before being named Principal of W.A. Pattillo Middle School for the 2014-2015 school year.

“I am excited about the wonderful opportunity to rejoin such a dedicated and committed staff.  There’s clearly a culture of academic excellence embedded in the SWE school community,” said Harris.

Having served as Assistant Principal at W.A. Pattillo Middle School this past school year, Lauren Prudenti has been named the school’s Principal. Prudenti joined ECPS in 2010 as a teacher at Martin Middle School. She also completed a year-long Administrative Internship at Tarboro High School during the 2013-2014 school year.

“As we move into our second year as a traditional 6-8 middle school, Pattillo’s focus will continue to be on the high quality of our instruction and building partnerships with our parents and community members,” said Prudenti.

In addition, Donita Gregory will be the Principal of Phillips Middle School. Prior to this appointment, Gregory was the Principal of West Edgecombe Middle School. Also, Tracy Barnes will return to North Edgecombe High School as the Assistant Principal.

The Political Agitator response: Proud of another young man that attended SouthWest Edgecombe and lived right down the road from me. Actually I go by where he used to live every day. Keep up the good work Antonio Shields.

VANCOUVER, Wash. – For most, a full-time, professional career is enough fulfillment and responsibility for a single lifetime. But don’t tell that to Antonio Shields.

He has his fulltime civilian job, but he also is a lieutenant in the United States Navy Reserve, attached to a unit at Navy Operational Support Center Kitsap.

He doesn’t stop there. On his off-duty time, Shields represents the Navy at funeral services for families of military veterans. He completed more than 60 of those in 2014 alone.

“Wearing the uniform and getting support from the community motivates me to continue to serve,” said Shields. “The Navy Reserve has given me the opportunity to travel the world, serve my country and meet and learn from the best people this country has to offer.” (Source: Read more)

Edgecombe County Public Schools: SWEHS Students Earn FBLA Honors

Pinetops, NC – Two SouthWest Edgecombe High School students were award winners at the Future Business Leaders of America Triangle East Region Competitive Events Leadership Conference held recently at Panther Creek High School in Cary. Matthew Jones placed first in Accounting I, while Miguel Ponce earned third place honors in Business Calculations.

The FBLA National Awards Program recognizes and rewards excellence in a broad range of business and career-related areas. Students compete in events testing their business knowledge and skills.

Both students credit their Career and Technical Education teacher, Venus Bradley, for their success. “Mrs. Bradley really encouraged us throughout this process. She even worked with us for long hours on several Saturdays to make sure we were prepared for the competition,” said Jones. “We are grateful for her support.”

“This is was an incredible experience for me,” states Ponce. “I am looking forward to future FBLA competitions.”

Jones and Ponce are now eligible to represent their school at the FBLA State Leadership Conference in Greensboro in April.

Pinetops NC: Sources Say More Charges Have Been Filed Against Edgecombe County Teacher And That Atleast 2 Staff Members Were Fired

You know I video ballgames and I am around young students at SouthWest 2 to 3 times a week. Leaving the game on Wednesday as I was traveling back from Bertie County I got the message about the report that 28 year old Andrew Joyner Harrell of Fountain is charged with Indecent Liberties with a Student and Felony Disseminate Obscenity.

After hearing some students talk about the issue over the past couple of days, some of the things they were saying obviously is adding up since it has been reported that 2 staff members have been fired. It has been reported that Harrell’s office was cleaned out. I said if they got a photo on his phone that is enough proof for him to be gone.

Sources say Harrel was arrested again on yesterday and bond was around $200,00 and that atleast 2 staff members have been fired.
