City to honor renowned gospel singer – Rocky Mount Telegram

Response: Much deserved! Bishop F.C. Barnes is a household name in the Twin Counties and across the nation.

The city of Rocky Mount will play host to the unveiling of a Bishop FC Barnes marker at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at Red Budd Holy Church at 637 Cleveland St.

Barnes founded and established Red Budd Holy Church in 1959, then located in Castalia. A pastor there for more than 52 years, Barnes was dubbed an awesome preacher and teacher, as well as a renowned gospel singer. He is best known for the song, “Rough Side of the Mountain,” which was No. 1 on the Billboard charts for more than a year. He died on July 11, 2011. (More)
