Officials say mental illness spurred fatal shooting spree – Rocky Mount Telegram

The Political Agitator response: Well the rumor mill ain’t gonna want to hear this because this is not what they wanted it to be. Like I said a couple of days ago, no matter what information is released nothing is going to bring all of the persons whom lost their lives back. This is just a sad situation that all of the families will endure losing family members that were dear to them.

TARBORO – Authorities released a statement Monday indicating mental illness was the catalyst for a man gunning down three people on Feb. 28.

According to police reports, Ian Trevor Sherrod gunned down George Lee Dickens around 1 p.m. at Master’s Touch Barber Shop at 801 W. Saint James St. While police were investigating the shooting of Dickens, officers received a call about a second shooting at Lot 48-B Mobile Home Estates. The two victims – Ventura Sanchez, 36, and Ana Marden Cruz Franco, 28 – later died from their injuries.

Officials reportedly spotted Sherrod traveling along Main Street and Northern Boulevard in Tarboro then found him in a car parked at 2311 Main St. Law enforcement officers converged on the scene and attempted to make contact with Sherrod, who was seated in his vehicle, displaying a firearm. No Matter What The Investigation Releases It Will Not Bring Back Any Of The People Involved

I have heard so much stuff since the day of the shooting at the local barbershop and in the community where the shooter lived. I have talked to several folks and heard lots of things but none of them were there on that day to know what set off the chain of events so that is just their opinions. Someone had the audacity to ask me what was the motive and some still do. Well I was not there, didn’t have a conversation with none of these folks on that day so I have no clue. All I know is this was a sad day in Edgecombe County and I will allow the family and whatever investigation is going on to bring closure to the matter. I am sad but I can’t imagine what the families whom have had their family lives disrupted forever are going through. So there lies my sympathy.

I tried to do a little something for all of the families and that is all I can do. I will not get caught up into the rumor mill and when someone talk about it to me, I have one thing to say. I gave a small donation to all of the families and I also purchased several shirts of George Dickens Jr. because I am familiar with him and his son used to go to school with my son.

No matter what the investigation releases it will not bring back any of the people involved. The sad part is that folks want it to be what they want it to be however my question is what difference will it make to non family members because the families involved will suffer forever. It will not change my life no matter what information is released. I just hate it for all families, the families that I know and the Hispanic families whom I didn’t know. Whatever information is released, the families can deal with it but for me and other folks it will not affect us. People need to respect the families and if they want to talk about it, they need to put out the truth as they know it and not the truth as they have been told by someone whom don’t have a clue. But what is it to talk about? For me I feel so sad for the spouses and the children whom will never see their family members again.

Tarboro NC Police still have no motive behind slayings – Edgecombe Tribune

Nearly three weeks after a triple murder that ended with law enforcement shooting the alleged gunman, police continue to investigate the motives behind 40-year-old Ian Sherrod’s actions during the shooting spree.
“Detectives are looking at every component and every angle to ensure that nothing is left uncovered,” Tarboro Police Sgt. Jesse Webb said. “Naturally rumors are going to be floating around and we are taking it as our responsibility to make sure we stick to the evidence that is presented to find the true motive.”
Local detectives and SBI agents have interviewed numerous people who were close to the situation or that knew the people involved. But to date, they can’t get a clear answer to why Sherrod went on the rampage.

In today’s Edgecombe Tribune, there is a timeline of events that took place on Feb. 28. Police releases all information pertaining to each call they received that day.

Tarboro NC: My Heart Is Heavy For The Families of George Dickens, Ian Sherrod, Ana Cruz-Franco & Ventura Sanchez Along With The Police Officers Involved In The Shooting On Yesterday

My condolences goes out to the Dickens, Sherrod, Cruz-Franco and Sanchez families. My heart is heavy for those whom were in the barbershop especially the children who witnessed the incident. They will never forget this and will probably think about it every time they goes to a barbershop. My brother in law was in the barbershop and witnessed the tragedy also. My sister was tore up when I called her yesterday and that is when I learned he was in the barbershop. My heart is heavy for anyone whom may have witnessed the shooting of Cruz-Franco and Sanchez. My heart is also heavy for the law enforcement officers whom had to bring down the victim. My heart is heavy for all whom knows any of the people involved directly and/or indirectly because this was a sad day in Edgecombe County. My heart is heavy for my son and my adopted son whom were classmates with George’s son up until this school year. They played basketball together in the middle school.

Families my heart is heavy and I just feel so hopeless but Jesus got this. Once we recognize and understand that he’s got it all in his hands the better off we will be. So  I want to leave this song with you, “Call Jesus – The Canton Spirituals featuring Lee Williams”
