Reverend William Barber: Leader of the Biggest Social Movement the Media Won’t Talk About – Occupy.com

The Political Agitator response: I was there another awesome event. Photos/Videos HKonJ 2015 Rev. Dr. William J. Barber II NAACP NC & Partners March To NC State Capitol Saturday February 14, 2015

This is the first installment in a three-part series on Reverend Barber and the Forward Together movement in North Carolina.

On Feb. 14, roughly 30,000 people got up early on a cold Saturday morning to march on the North Carolina state house in Raleigh to demand anti-poverty legislation, voting rights, healthcare access, LGBT rights, environmental justice, criminal justice reform, and reproductive rights. #MoralMarch, the official hashtag of the protest, was a top national trend on Twitter, and an image of the march posted on the US Uncut Facebook page was shared over 12,000 times and reached almost 1.5 million people. (Full disclosure: I’m one of the admins for US Uncut.)

Meanwhile, the lead story in the next day’s Raleigh News & Observer, complete with a spread of 97 photos, was about a five-mile run in which participants ate a dozen Krispy Kreme donuts halfway through. Anchors of corporate-owned local TV news stations each spent 40 seconds talking over video of the march, briefly mentioning that it happened, and the News & Observer later gave the march a brief two-sentence summary on its website. So what is it about the Forward Together movement the media is so scared to talk about? (Source: Read more)

"LOW TURNOUT?" YOU BE THE JUDGE! HKONJ, FEBRUARY 14, 2015 CUP OVERFLOWING WITH LOVE, UNITY, DIVERSITY, DIRECTION, AND HOPE – DOWNTOWN RALEIGH by Minister Curtis Everette Gatewood

Curtis Everette Gatewood

Certain media outlets had predetermined, how they would report this year’s turnout for the Moral March on Raleigh, and HKonJ People’s Assembly in an effort to peel off momentum and downplay the rising tide of a new generation seeking justice. They knew last year’s effort of an estimated more than 80,000 could not possibly be repeated, therefore, many media outlets had already decided, if this year’s rally had 79,999,we are going to say, “This year, turnout was low!” I’m shaking my head.

Everyone who is honest, present, and not trying to deceive others, is shocked at how similar this year’s crowd was even as we never expected to have as many as last year. Because, last year was the same year Governor McCrory was elected and came into office joined at the hip of tea-party-funder Art Pope, while other Tea-Party extremists hijacked and took over the NC General assembly and began immediately legislatively assaulting children, African Americans, Hispanics, Women, LGBT, Labor, environment, Educators/education, those in need of Obamacare, those in need of unemployment benefits, poor Whites, and others who were not in the club of greed with those such as NC Civitas, ALEC, AFP, and other rich White male cliques.

In spite of those who would like to get us caught up into the numbers game, this year’s march, may have again outnumbered Selma’s final Edmund Pettus Bridge crossing (an estimated 25,000) in 1965 which had held the record for the largest civil rights mobilization in the South until, HKonJ8 – 2014, and now HKonJ9 – 2015 (the two most recent HKonJ People’s Assembly gatherings downtown Raleigh)! This year’s HKonJ turnout still “turned out” more than we have ever seen at any Tea Party rally, especially when considering this rally was not a “national” rally, but was indigenously-led by Rev. Dr. William J. Barber, II and other great state-grown leaders within ONE state – North Carolina. This year’s HKonJ turnout still produced more diversity (young, old, Black, White, Brown, Yellow, etc.) than any other social justice demonstration of our generation.

So let’s not get caught up into the numbers game; let’s not let them keep moving the goal post. WE HAVE PROVEN WE ARE BEST POSITIONED TO REPRESENT THE BEST INTERESTS AND BEST HOPES OF THE WHOLE BODY OF NORTH CAROLINIANS – “WE THE PEOPLE.” THIS IS WHY, NO MATTER WHAT THEY SAY; NOT MATTER WHAT GAMES THEY PLAY – WE ARE GOING “FORWARD TOGETHER – NOT ONE STEP BACK!” FORWARD TODAY, FORWARD TOMORROW; FORWARD FOREVER!

Thank you for allowing God to use you to show up and show out! Thank you for letting God use you to show North Carolina and show the world what the true faces of LOVE, UNITY, TRUTH, JUSTICE, and DEMOCRACY – ENOUGH LIES AND HYPOCRISY!

WE ARE WHAT THE WORLD NEEDS NOW – LOVE SWEET LOVE! LOVE FOR THE LEAST; LOVE FOR THE LESS; LOVE FOR THE OPPRESSED!

CONGRATULATIONS TO REV. DR. WILLIAM J. BARBER, II, AND THE FORWARD TOGETHER MORAL MOVEMENT, WHICH INCLUDES YOU AND THE MIGHTY HKONJ COALITION!!!

NAACP NC HKonJ Moral March On Raleigh How Many People Really Attended? Does It Really Matter?

I keep hearing there were 80,00, 20,000 even maybe 100,000 people at the march. I don’t know how many were there but it damn sure was a lot of people there.

Were you there? Hell, if you had been there the number would have been greater, but it still would not have changed the outcome of the purpose of the march.

Okay now back to the numbers game. It does not matter what the actual count was because I don’t think you can possibly figure out exactly how many people were there since there was no way to actually count the people. Hell, who can count to 10,000, 20,000, 80,000 or 100,000 off the top of their head. Not my ignant ass.

Well I was at the march just like I have been at most if not all of them. I am listed as a partner of the HKonJ and I am a Life Fully Paid Member of the NAACP and I am glad about it.

The point is folks are sick and tired of being sick and tired of what is going on in NC and we participated in the march. While some folks are trying to count how many people were there, frankly I don’t give a damn. What I do care about is I witnessed and recorded via video and photos the 1,000’s of people that were there to hear the messages that we received.

So Now Run & Tell That!

Work, Watch as well as Pray going Forward if you Love Justice in North Carolina! by Curtis Gatewood Columnist

All those who love justice, pray for our movement here in North Carolina. Also pray for Rev. Dr. William J. Barber, II.

As you may know, Saturday’s event (2/8/14 – ‘Moral March on Raleigh & HKonJ People’s Assembly’) put Dr. Barber and our Moral/HKonJ movement above the radar nationally/internationally.

Our justice-loving Black, White, Brown, Yellow, and Red brothers and sisters came together and helped to make the event so successful at demonstrating love, unity, diversity, order, intellect, strength and power, it scared the hell into some ‘powerful’ opposition who has since panicked.

The journalist ‘FOXES’ are now bitterly crawling out of their holes in an attempt to stomp this fire out which threatens to breath new light/life, new hope, and new faith into a ‘Perverse and Faithless Generation!’

Expect to see meaner, more divisive, and more perverted journalism aimed toward our movement as we win more and more support and momentum.

Gutter-journalism has been historically used to create dissension, confusion, and even domestic terrorism as righteous movements emerge to bring truth to the light. But the truth is marching on!

I therefore remind you like never before – those who love justice must ENDURE UNTIL THE END – KEEPING THE FOCUS; KEEPING THE (good) FIGHT; KEEPING THE FAITH; KEEPING THE FIRE; KEEPING FORWARD (not one step back)!!!
