Ab so damn lute ly!
I don’t care what folk say about me because I have no control over what other folk think so I don’t lose any sleep.
A couple of months ago while training on 3rd shift I was at home around 6 PM I seen Linda Tharrington Goines post she was at the hospital in Greenville with her husband. She said they had been in Farmville all day before they transferred him to Vidant in Greenville.
Linda posted she needed a ride to Tarboro to get her car so she could refresh and go back to Greenville to be with her husband.
I responded I will come and get you if no one else comes. She said come. I had to take a shower. I said if someone comes before I get there, just let me know and I will turn around.
It was raining and actually I was trying to limit my traveling because I was in the process of ordering some tires.
I picked up Linda and she wanted to stop by a hot dog place and I even let her eat in my car.
I took Linda home downtown Tarboro and she didn’t give me a dime for gas. But I do what I do out of the goodness of my heart.
I then went back home in Pinetops which is Tarboro 7 miles from Tarboro and 3 miles from Pinetops. I went to work in Rocky Mount at 11 PM.
Some folk would say you are too ignant to go to Greenville and pick up a white female, her husband in the hospital and take her anywhere. But I see her as a woman. Now don’t get it twisted because I am not colorblind and ab so damn lute ly know that white and black are 2 different colors.
So when the Special C’s try to discredit me and lie on me all I do is Stand!
Some Black folk can be a piece of work.
Over the years I have experienced some things because I have been actively engaged in community activism and political activism. I understand why some black folk do what they do but it does not make it right. One must look over some things and keep it positive.
I have always heard that some black folk are like crabs in a bucket. I came to that conclusion years ago that some black folk are scared to speak out, jealous, envy and can be just plain mean. Maybe they have a reason for that but I can’t think of any reason I have to be any of that. Some black folk especially church folk that read the bible or have heard scriptures have heard that we should be our brother’s keeper. But some folk especially church folk get amnesia when it comes to certain scriptures.
Somewhere around 1988 I joined Black Workers For Justice that was housed in Rocky Mount and then I joined the NAACP housed in Rocky Mount in 1992. I joined both to be a voice for the voiceless especially the youth and the elderly. I pledged to myself to advocate for school issues, work issues, political issues and other. I have been fighting all of these years for folk even some ungrateful folk who had and have a problem with me for being outspoken but they reaped the benefits. Too bad everyone reaps the work of those who advocate for change and for better. I was named militant by some black folk who wanted me to shut up because they were afraid how some white folk would look at them. I was named a racist by some white folk who were not used to a young black male being outspoken but some white folk have reaped the benefits of my advocacy as well.
I have experienced the behavior of some black folk and I understand why young and older blacks do what they do. It seems that when they are doing great things they are never recognized for their works so it leaves them without motivation. It is sad that folk don’t get recognized by local folk but outsiders see the work and recognize them.
I am going to use myself as an example because I can tell my story better than anyone and I am going to tell it now because some folk will try to tell it after I am no longer.
Over the years some black folk said we needed our own black media. Well I took it upon myself back in the early 90’s to start doing a newsletter and then several years later. I was introduced to blogging by a former Rocky Mount Telegram reporter that came here from Boston Massachusetts and a white female friend advocate out of Greensboro that I met on Facebook. When I post on my blog it is shared to my Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn pages. I video meetings and events and take photos that I share on my social media and YouTube pages.
I have been sacrificing my time and resources since the late 80’s out of my pocket spending resources that I needed to have been holding on to since my wife has not worked since we have been married in 1997. Had several setbacks taking some medical leave without pay and just missing time out of work when mom was terminally ill in 1997, during the flood of 1999, dad had 2 hip replacements during the 2000’s along with a truck accident and then 2 more floods within a years time. Even going through my personal struggles I still assisted others during that time.
I look at how folk recognize folk who receive a salary for what they do while you have some folk like myself out here struggling trying to provide a service out of pocket and folk don’t see the need to have an appreciation service and/or make donations to the work they provide. Although I have struggled over the years trying to provide a service I have also donated/or provided a service to others even those who have never donated to me.
Folk you need to look at who are doing some great things in Edgecombe County. Because of the works that some are doing, Edgecombe County has been and continue to be recognized.
Folk we got to do better. If we are going to say we are our brother’s keeper then we need to start showing folk some love and stop just providing lip service.
I have folk whom I network with and those are the folk I am going to make sure I take care of. You see when we network together that is a savings and money do not have to be a part of the equation. However if you don’t ever do anything for me but I am doing things for you that cost money and my time then that is a problem.
As I say, “I have no permanent friends no permanent enemies only permanent interest!”
I am talking about political leaders and those whom are engaged.
I understand your post however the Chaos who get to determine what is the chaos? Most people have a following so unless proven sometimes it may seem selfish lust for power when they are actually speaking for themselves and their followers. I just think folk have to be careful when they are trying to get their point across to remove all doubt.
I have talked about putting differences aside from day one when I got involved in community and political activism after seeing how folk had political egos. I have said it countless times over the years that black folk need to call a coming to Jesus meeting and has out our differences and those whom choose to stay in the room then we can move forward. But until everyone are willing to come to the table then we will continue to have the mess we have.
I agree 100% with you, “We must put our differences aside I order to reach the common goal of helping our candidates be ELECTED into the offices on the Ballot.”
However some Candidates problem is they created the division early on and they need to attempt to get it right. They may need to call the coming to Jesus meeting and undo some mess they have done and what they have done publicly can’t be corrected secretly. Can’t have it both ways.
You say, “We need those candidates that are NOT agenda driven, looking for a title besides their name.” Not having an agenda could be dangerous. I was so glad when candidate then Senator Barack Obama folk came to town when he was running for President that he had his own folk on the ground in charge of these local communities. Some had a problem with that but it was good to me because I know how these local folk play games and can be dangerous to other candidates seeking office.
Candidates better have a singular agenda that can include others but keeping in mind that it is up to one’s own to get themselves elected.
I am so glad I know all of the players the candidates, the want to be candidates, those who are engaged in the process and those on the sidelines.
The main thing is we have got to hold each other accountable for our actions. We must be willing to call out folk. We are quick to call out folk who are not local but we allow the locals a pass. This is why the local community is suffering because we allow mess.
I have stressed that anyone who want to be in politics they need to contact me because I have invested much time in politics in Edgecombe/Nash County but not limited to. However I am a registered voter in Edgecombe.
Some folk say who do I think I am? Well they will learn but they can learn even faster if they contact me be they local, surrounding counties and abroad because my resources are awesome.
You see when the candidates reach out to me I tell them what the climate is, where I stand and what I suggest that they do. Oh and that is free.
This is why we need some political agitators but folk hide behind code names, code words and other. I ain’t the one because I am for justice no matter who it is for or against. I am for truth no matter who it is for or against. I have no permanent friends no permanent enemies only permanent interest.
Damn the what ifs?
What if some White Folk had not stole every damn good thing the Black Folk done and the offices they held back when, just maybe the subject of the day would be about black folk in high places such as the Supreme Court, CEOs and etc.?
Let’s talk about that part!
If you scared say it!
When folk say they don’t understand why folk hold back and not tell they have been sexually assaulted or etc. I can relate. Hell there are things that I would love to talk about on many levels but some folk will take it and use it against me no matter how much it would help someone. There are some things I could say but the timing ain’t right because family, friends, place of employment and other may not accept them trues.
Hell there are countless folk in this world who are walking around holding some mess in due to retaliation of some sort.
I know what to say and when to say it because must be smart about it.
There is a time and season for all things.
Today I stopped at the Family Dollar Store in Pinetops to buy something and to return a TV antenna that I purchased in Greenville on Monday night. I had not opened the box so I was looking forward to the store crediting the money back on my card or either give me cash. I picked up the item I was going to buy and then approached the cashier. I noticed the item I was purchasing was open so I told the cashier I was going to get another one and that I was returning the antenna. She hollered out to the other lady in the store who was sitting down on an aisle I guessing stocking. The said what? I said she probably need you because I am returning something.
When Ms. C came up to the see what the cashier wanted she immediately told me that she could not refund me my money that the sign on the register said so and that her Supervisor said she couldn’t do it that I had to do an exchange. I said I didn’t know that. Now what I do know is that if the box had been open, had not that I could only get a refund but since the box had not been opened I knew I could get a refund. I said okay and I purchased the item that I came to get and left the store. I then called someone and they said I could get a refund. Plus I know how electronics work and it varies from store to store but I know how this store worked.
I had to go to Tarboro to get a refund from Advance Auto so I knew I would go over the Family Dollar and get my refund. After I did I went back to the store in Pinetops and I told Ms. C that I had got my refund. I said now I had no problem with not being able to get my refund at the moment but someone else may needed their money. I said so don’t do that again and if you didn’t know how to do it then that is one thing. She immediately went off and said she knew how to do it. She said just get out of the store. I said no I am not going anywhere. She said she was going to call the police and I said go ahead. Well the police was sitting in his car within walking distance in the old Hardees’ parking lot when I drove up.
I walked outside of the store and she came outside and said just leave. I said I am not going anywhere until the police come since you have called him. Well it was taking him so long but then he drove by. I walked back in the store and stood at the door. She said dude just leave and I said my name ain’t dude my name is Curmilus Dancy so I ain’t dude. I said I ain’t going anywhere until the police arrive. She said she was tired of this mess or something and went over to the computer. I walked back outside the store and she came out and said he went to the wrong store.
The police went to the police station but came back and went across the road to the Dollar General. She hollered over there and said over here. So I helped her and said over here. I stayed outside til he arrived and she had gone back in the store. I told him since she called him let’s go in and get her story.
Ms. C told the man I was belligerent acting up and she had told me to leave. I had my work badge on and a Clee for Sheriff Shirt on and while she was talking I just happened to move my badge and she said I don’t care what kind of shirt you have on. I said talk to the officer tell him what you got to say and then I am going to tell him my side. She told him to come back and look at the video it was all on video. I said I recorded it on my phone and she said the cashier was recording on her phone too.
I told the police officer what happened that I was trying to get a refund and she said it was on the front of the register that she couldn’t do refunds on electronics. I said that is not up there. I told the officer that I told her that she can’t refuse to give folk their refund because some folk may need their money and not do an exchange. I said I was calm because I knew I would get my money in Tarboro. I said I don’t get stupid like that. I said the police chief and the mayor and others downtown know me. I said I get the press releases from the police department because I am a reporter. I went to the car and got my card out and gave the officer and told him in case my name come up again.
Ms. C was very unprofessional. She lied on me so if she treated me like that, how will she treat the employees that work there. But again my main concern is that she lied to me and that someone else may need their money but I was okay. I was not mad just trying to help her.
Now everyone that know me know that I can get ignant but I know how to and when to. This was not the place nor the time.
I will be reporting this to the store because Ms. C need to understand that she need to be professional when dealing with customers. I used to work as a cashier with Zip Mart and I know customer service.
I ain’t mad with nobody. Don’t blame me for being ignant but one thing folk ain’t going to do is disrespect me by lying on me just tell the truth.
