A real estate investor told the Telegram he and his team of partners have decided not to restore a former downtown motor lodge and restaurant and have placed the location on the market.

“There’s a lot of reasons why we decided not to proceed with this project,” Jesse Gerstl said about the Carleton House site, which is in the 200 block of North Church Street. “I think the main is that we’ve got a lot of other projects going on in downtown — and this was a very big project and the timing wasn’t really right.”

Gerstl declined to state how much he and his team are asking for the location, which is listed online with the Mumford Co., which specializes in advising hotels, and with the Chambliss & Rabil real estate company.

A check of Mumford’s website showed the list price for the location at $1.55 million.

While not stating the price, Gerstl told the Telegram he and his team are offering the property for sale for what he and his team presently have invested in the location.
