Adkins named Southerner news editor – Daily Southerner

Oh by the way I believe this is an historical moment, the first black editor. If am wrong I stand to be corrected.

TARBORO — In the wake of editor/publisher John H. Walker’s retirement, The Daily Southerner announced this week that long-time, local newspaper veteran Calvin Adkins has been named news editor.
Adkins, 52, officially assumed the position Wednesday and will be in charge of the day-to-day operations in the newsroom.

"I am speechless," Adkins said of the appointment. "I didn’t expect this. I want to thank [Southerner parent company] CNHI and everyone who had a part in determining that I was capable of being news editor." (Source: Read more)
