Mayor Bobbie Jones Is The Best Candidate For Mayor of Princeville NC And The Videos Validates Why

During the beginning of the meetings all candidates were given time to do an introduction. Yolanda Thigpen mentioned the NAACP. Yes she used to be the President of the Edgecombe County Tarboro Branch and she took over the branch when Bobbie Jones who were serving as President decided not to seek another term and I was the 1st Vice President. I asked that we get someone younger than I and I was going to move my membership back to Rocky Mount Branch because I had moved my membership temporarily to get the Edgecombe County Branch back up and rolling. Today there is no Edgecombe County NAACP Tarboro Branch and it faded away under Thigpen’s leadership.

Question 1

How would you explain to the citizens if they were asking the town to make a move that you as the board does not think is a good decision for the town?

I am sorry Viola Harris but the question is one thing but you explained a different way. That is not what the question was it ask that you as the board and not the citizens thinking it is not a good decision.

imageMayor Bobbie Jones current mayor responded 1st and said if he understand the question correctly the question is related to the buyout of the town they are opposed to the buyout but they allowed folk to sign up for the buyout, mitigation and reconstruction.

Milton Bullock followed – listen to his response. I am not going to talk about his responses because at the end of the meeting he said there was 2 good candidates talking about Jones and Thigpen and he left others thinking he was backing out of the race. However his name will be on the ballot though.

Yolanda Thigpen she mentioned if the question was about the buyout that has been answered but if talking about moving to the 50 acres, then she said the board has been negligent in sharing information with the citizens. She talked about not being transparent.

After Yolanda responded I asked since she took the question and made it what she wanted it to be because it was obvious the question was not clear. I asked was Jones and Bullock gonna be able to talk about where Thigpen took the question because it was not clear to me either. And since Jones and Thigpen has some doubts I feel I am on point. What I think though is that the question was from Thigpen camp.

Question 2

Flood caused the town to have a major setback what is your vision for the town within next 5 years?

Mayor Bobbie Jones said the board already has a vision and talked about all they have going annexing land and other things.

Yolanda Thigpen said the things Jones said are factual. She added downtown revitalization mentioned “they” wanted to be like Pinetops such as having a Post Office, talked about having WI-FI and other. Comparing Princeville to Pinetops. Really? Who the hell is “they?” the be like Pinetops thing came up during the opening of this forum when Conetoe candidate mentioned being like Pinetops. SMDH! Said if another flood came folk would be happy to come back because of what they would have to offer if they were to be like Pinetops.

Mayor Bobbie Jones talked the vision and I feel it is a damn good one. Talking about revitalizing a damn town that ain’t nothing in place at the moment, getting Post Office, something that has been an issue for years and is nothing news but now ain’t the time. Internet is good but now is not the time.

Question 3

If you are elected what would be your recovery plan for the flood?  Viola the moderator said that question had already been answered.

Question 4

What have you done to keep current and stay abreast to the Princeville situation how do you propose to get us back home?

Mayor Bobbie Jones says he stay current and imageabreast daily basis talking to all the resources in place. Talked about making the citizens whole even mentally.

Yolanda Thigpen talked about being informed this is the day of technology. She said she been in a whole of meetings and asked some questions answered that others have not answered. She said he has been sharing information via facebook along with Bobbie sharing information also. She said folk are during a lot of talking but there is not al ot are going on. She said she knows county commissioners, county manager, folk from FEMA and the liason Joe Durham. She said the information ain’t foreign to her she is checking out stuff just like Mayor Jones and anyone else who can read and pay attention to what is going on. Said when she is not in the meeting she has someone in the meeting.

I have been covering the Princeville meetings over the years and although I have not been lately, Thigpen was not there. My videos don’t lie. Sources say she just began to come maybe around 2 months ago. So why do someone need to vote for Thigpen because she said nothing that would be done differently that Mayor Jones is not already doing however she do not get to be in on everything because communication goes on when there is no public meetings going on.

Question 5

Yolanda Thigpen how do you feel Princeville redevelopment could move under your leadership?

Yoland Thigpen said she didn’t mention in her intro that she is a grant writer and been writing grants since 2002 you have to find a grant as a grant writer. She said she bring that to the table. She says she is a business owner. She says grants are key when it comes to the town.

I find it funny as hell that she didn’t mention not one grant she has written. It is not the duty of a mayor to write grants for the town the town manager runs the town not the mayor. Why she has not offered her assistance in writing grants for the town since she has been a grant writer for 15 years. Damn in 2002. So therefore it appears one has to be the mayor to offer their skills to helping Princeville with seeking funding. If I am correct a grant writer figure in their fee within the grant so therefore they would get paid. So since the mayor get a very small stipend serving on the council, if Thigpen was able to write a real grant she would not be able to get paid. Why has Thigpen not written a grant over the years and could have received some compensation?

I find it strange that since she is a business owner that she not once named what type of business she has?

Question 6

Mayor Bobbie Jones why did you decide to run again and why do you think the people of Princeville will benefit from voting for you for another term?

Mayor Bobbie Jones said why he decided to run again because he want to do what he had started out to do but the flood came.

Next were some questions for all candidates

Question 1

What is your stance on partnerships with our youth and school system?

Yolanda Thigpen said ironic she was at the school board meeting last evening. She said some have said they wanted to partner and be allies but she hope they mean what they said. What the hell? Damn I didn’t get anything out of the rest of the response.

Mayor Bobbie Jones talked about his work with the school system and currently is a Principal now but has served as an Assistant Principal for a couple of years. Talked about the accomplishments made in the different school system where he has been and is at now.

How much time is needed to be effective to for fill the responsibility of the positions you are seeking?

Yolanda Thigpen said you can’t quantify this thing but it is about quality. Nothing in response to the time as term but someone said it may take someone 8 hours to do something versus someone taking them 30 minutes. Said she could multi-task so she can keep a job. Need to work after hours not just a 8 – 5 job and not just come once a month to a meeting.

Mayor Bobbie Jones need to be able to go to work day one. Talked about what was not in place when he came but they got the books back, all the bills been paid and got a town manager.

Closing Comments from all of the candidates

Yolanda Thigpen solicit your votes. She said Mayor Bobbie Jones mentioned he ran the 1st time because some people asked him to run but you would think she was talking about they asked him to run for re-election. She said noone asked her to run she saw what was being done and not being done and she felt like she could be an effective leader. Really? Why?

She said when you google you don’t see what they say they have done as a town that nothing really pops up. She said it is okay about the books had to get them back by submitting a budget. (What the hell? It took more than that) She said at the end of the day she does not see any real progress.

She says she feel she can multi-task be a resource to take Princeville forward. She said a vote for her is to take Princeville forward not on what they have said because a lot of stuff that has been said has been based on the flood. She said if it had not been a flood the town would not be getting slated benefits because the town has not gotten them yet. Damn this is about as ignant as it get to say that the stuff being done now would not be if it had not been a flood. Really? Who in the hell expected a flood and who in the hell live to see a flood to get benefits? Fact! Flood came and damn the town has to rebuild or move so the vision is to come back with Mayor Bobbie Jones slogan BIGGER, BETTER AND BOLDER.

She said don’t be fooled by the hype. (I think that was for me because recently I posted don’t be fooled by the hype as I stated I was supporting Mayor Bobbie Jones) She said as far as change goes don’t feel like we can’t change now because we are having some people looking at us now. She says she has a very sharp mind that her learning curve is not evening going to be an issue because she has been in the meetings so the day after the election she will be ready to work for the town of Princeville. I also mentioned about changing the guards now and the current mayor need to stay in to complete his mission because he was sidetracked by the flood.

Mayor Bobbie Jones said this election is not about him or any of the candidates here. It is about putting people in position of leadership who are going to do right about the people. he said this is not a position to gain notoriety and pats on the back.
