Tom Rogers, Mayor Pro Tem’s statement from Jan. 28 Rocky Mount City Council meeting:

The City Council has authorized an independent, in-depth review into matters that it has identified relative to the activities of the city manager and leadership of our city, including employee morale, employee turnover, compensation practices, hiring practices, financial management – including HUD’s relationship with Rocky Mount – and any other items that may be identified.

This review will begin immediately and proceed with speed, thoroughness and objectivity. The final report will be utilized by the City Council to determine fair and appropriate steps in this matter.

To employees: We deeply value your commitment and service to the citizens of Rocky Mount. We know this is a time of uncertainty, and we pledge to do all we can to stabilize your work environment.

To the citizens of Rocky Mount: We know that you have questions, and we feel your concern. We take all matters of this city – especially the current situation – with the utmost seriousness. We commit to take the necessary steps to resolve this matter expeditiously and in a way that continues the forward momentum and excitement that is underway in Rocky Mount.

We remain supportive of an equitable, inclusive and supporting environment for everyone.
