Letter to the Editor: Dancy won’t be silenced – Rocky Mount Telegram

Sunday, April 21, 2019

There has been a lot of talk about my appointment on the Rocky Mount Human Relations Commission. I was appointed by the NAACP.

Lindell John Kay asked me to talk to him about my appointment because I am not a citizen of Rocky Mount. I told him to talk to the NAACP and the Rocky Mount City Council about that. Councilman Andre Knight is also the president of the NAACP. Lindell got mad because I would not talk to him and did an open letter to me on the Rocky Mount Concerned Citizens Facebook page.

On Monday, April 1, during the Rocky Mount City Council meeting, the council discussed boards and commissions appointments. After the boards and commissions appointments had been completed that were on the agenda, the mayor pro-tem brought up the issue with my appointment. Pam Casey, city clerk, explained what happened and that some appointments such as the NAACP’s and chamber’s has been done differently, not actually coming before the council for years. However, the problem here was because I don’t live in Rocky Mount.

I was removed from the commission due to a technicality. Councilman Knight responded to Councilman Rogers when he brought up the issue and said he had spoken to me and said I had no problem with whatever they did. But like I told Lindell, that was a council and NAACP issue because I didn’t appoint myself.

The problem is beyond the residency issue but more because I have been very vocal during the Human Relations Commission meetings, especially challenging a member Attorney Ralph Steve Stevenson, and he didn’t like it and took it personal. I have also been very vocal in the Telegram, responding to Lindell’s articles about the Rocky Mount City Council members Andre Knight, especially, and the City Manager Rochelle Small-Toney.

Lindell has been trying to paint a negative picture of me because I talk about racial issues and because of how I respond to folk on social media pages that attack me. Because I say “Ignant Whte Folk,” “Ignant Safe Black Folk” and “Special Cs,” Lindell and his followers have just gone crazy. Is it really that serious?

Now the NAACP will appoint another person, however, I am going to still attend all the meetings and report on them like I do other meetings across the county.

See How Lindell John Kay Lies in this Article “City panel reaches out to Latinos”

See how the narrative was created in this article: “City panel reaches out to Latinos” by Lindell John Kay.

First of all it is funny how Lindell Kay attended his 2nd meeting ever of the Rocky Mount HRC simply because he was carrying out a member Attorney Steve Stevenson lead to attempt to discredit me.

During the March meeting the Latino community met with us and we had a great dialogue. This was Lindell Kay’s first meeting. We basically talked about what they wanted during the March meeting but Lindell Kay came to the meeting to focus on my appointment.

Lindell Kay said, “Latinos expressed apprehension when seeking help from police, Jones said, adding the commission could help by holding meetings in Latino neighborhoods to help them seek resources in the community.”

The following is why Steve Stevenson has a problem with me. Commissioner Steve Stevenson said the commission can’t ignore the fact that some of the members of the Latino community are undocumented. “Undocumented keeps coming up, that’s a fear factor right there,” Commissioner Curmilus Dancy said. As far as reaching out to the Latino community, the commission needs to let that community say how it wants to be approached. Dancy said he’s working to expand the commission. I be questioning Steve’s motives and he can’t take it.

Dancy said a police representative should be in attendance at the meetings whenever issues involving law enforcement are discussed.

I don’t know where the following came from but this is a familiar statement by some folk, “Wells said the commissioners can’t forget about the work in between meetings.

“Anybody who knows me knows there’s not a racist bone in my body,” Wells said. “Some of my best friends are black.”

The following is a lie because I was never asked to step down. Dancy — who was asked by the City Council to step down because he isn’t a resident of the city — said he feels like the commission failed him. He said he’s always been above board at meetings and a team player, but now that he’s off the commission people will hear from him.

“I don’t bother people until they come after me,” Dancy said.

Dancy said the Telegram has told lies about him. He said he had to call WHIG-TV during his lunch break at Honeywell to clear it up.

Again another lie because I didn’t say I called on my lunch break, I called during my morning break. I go to lunch around noon and the morning show is on from 7 am – 9 am if I am correct. So what was the purpose of naming where I work? That is because the motive has been to go after my job. You see this is why folk don’t get involved with politics because they will come after you.

The following is another lie coming from Lindell Kay, “The commission held a small party for Dancy after the meeting.”

As I continue to say my videos don’t lie but Lindell Kay hasss a problem when I say he lie, lie, lie.

Letter to the Editor: Racial understanding still elusive by Gardenia Hobbs – Rocky Mount Telegram

The Political Agitator’s response: You did a great job on the HRC. I attended the meetings back then and that is when I 1st met you. We served on the Common Ground Study Circles together as well and I totally agree with your observation. You are ab so lute ly correct, “This town, like so many others in this country, appears to have a vested interest in maintaining the status quo when it comes to bridging the racial divide. We hear a lot of talk about working together but it’s just that, talk. To my knowledge, there appears to be no interest on the part of anyone or any group to pick up the baton and organize a coalition to initiate ongoing frank and honest community dialogue that would promote racial tolerance and understanding that leads to improved race relations.”

Not so long ago it would not have been unreasonable to view racism as a smoldering ember, but today that ember has again been reignited.

The mere mention of the word racism brings on an onslaught of denials and finger-pointing from those who apparently feel they are judge and jury. Racism is ingrained in this country’s fabric at every level and injects itself into everyday decision-making that may or may not spark unconscious biases. No matter how you slice it or dice it, racism is real, it exists and it is not a figment of the imagination.

As a person of color, longevity has exposed me to all kinds of racism. I know it when I see or hear it and I do not need an interpreter. Indeed, my upbringing has served me well. It has been the foundation on which I have persevered even in the worst of times. Over the years, in my effort to rise above talk, I have participated in initiatives intended to help bring about tolerance and understanding of the views and life experiences of others. I Did Not Step Down From Rocky Mount Human Relations Commission Another Lie Coming From Lindell John Kay Rocky Mount Telegram Reporter

Click On photo to watch video beginning at the time of the discussion about the NAACP Appointment.

This following is why one should attend the Rocky Mount City Council Committee of the Whole Meetings/Regular Monthly Meetings and/or talk to someone that was present but on top of that look at the video that I provide. But some folk will not take the time to look at the video to get the whole trues. It is easy for a reporter to write the narrative of what type of message and who he want to direct the message to.

The article a couple of days ago that read, “Commission member to step down” is misleading. I did not step down. I was removed from the HRC by the council. It appears that Councilman Tom Rogers was a force behind bringing the matter to the table saying he had received some calls. Councilwoman Lois Watkins said she had received some too.

When the discussion began Councilman Andre Knight responded and called my name but me stepping down never was mentioned.

See what Councilman Reuben Blackwell said about the role of the HRC.

See what Councilman Tom Rogers said about the nomination.

See what Mayor David Combs suggested.

See what Councilman Tom Rogers said about harmony. Now this was some b.s. coming from the white community because I have talked about Special Cs and Safe Black Folk on my blog and other social media sites. I am a grown ass 56 year old man and I know when to act a fool and I have never acted a fool in a HRC meeting.

Councilman Knight asked the attorney about the HRC going in Closed Session because an attorney that sits on the HRC Steve Stevenson called a point of order when I tried to speak to an agenda item: HRC Commissioners concerns during the March meeting. That was some more b.s. and I called them on it because I know he was out of order.

My appointment became a newspaper article after all of this time has gone by simply because I have challenged Lindell John Kay Rocky Mount Telegram Reporter and the white community that began the lynching process of the Rocky Mount City Council and the City Manager/Staff back in December. I would bet that Attorney Steve Stevenson told the white community and Lindell Kay that I was serving on the HRC so go after me. I already knew it was coming because I had already heard.

See the following leading up to me being removed from the HRC.

See conversations leading up to the movement of removing me from the HRC.

Click on Conversations.

This is just one of many articles I am going to show how Lindell John Kay has used the Rocky Mount Telegram to help the Special Cs and some Ignant Safe Black Folk to attempt to lynch certain black folk.

Folk you better get involved and follow the movement. It is all about RACE and Power!

Commission member to step down – Rocky Mount Telegram

Photos: Me & my guy Lindell John Kay Rocky Mount Reporter and Bronson Williams in the background tripping on us. This guy came up and seen me & my guy talking and said he had to capture the moment.

The Political Agitator’s response: My guy Lindell John Kay continues to show me how ignant works. During the meeting around a week ago at Edgecombe Community College about the Tarboro Street Affordable Housing Lindell said his wife told him not to write the Open Letter about me on the Rocky Mount Concerned Citizens Facebook page around 2 months ago but he did anyway. Lindell was mad as hell because I would not respond to him about my appointment on the council and I told him the NAACP and the Council will handle the situation. Bronson Williams was a part of the conversation at the college and we both laughed and said but you did the open letter after your wife told you not to anyway. Lindell said his children calls him Special C. He said he didn’t like me calling him that because it was negative and I said but if you say you don’t know what it means then how can you say it is negative? On Monday of this week I asked Lindell again so what do you think Special C stand for and he said I think it stand for Caucasian. This guy is dangerous when it comes to writing articles and everyone he interviews should be scared of how he lie in his articles. My videos don’t lie. I thought Lindell would have waited until I attended the council meeting on today before he did the story because he told me he couldn’t mention it in the article on yesterday if he chose to write about the CDC and the city. But then again writing about it today he get an opportunity to write about me again after the Human Relations Meeting on today. He continues to try to paint a negative picture about me and mentioning a commission member saying, “A member of the imagecommission said Dancy’s presence had a chilling effect at monthly meetings. The stated purpose of the commission is to promote understanding, respect and harmony among all people.” If I was to place a bet it would be Attorney Steve Stevenson because I have been handling his …. since I have been on the commission and many love it. You see I don’t play when I go into meetings because I act professionally and actually keep meetings on track per the agenda and procedures. My videos and audios of meetings prove that fact. Watch the video of the meeting that Lindell did this article on https://youtu.be/qS1G_6EGVAw

Commission member to step down

The Rocky Mount City Council will appoint a replacement for a city commission member who doesn’t live in the city limits.

Curmilus Dancy, the Human Relations Commission’s designated representative of the local chapter of the NAACP, will continue to serve on the city’s commission until the NAACP can appoint a new representative at its next monthly meeting, the City Council decided during a Monday workshop.

Dancy has served on the commission for nearly a year. He’s a resident of Tarboro with a mailing address in Pinetops. The 13 members of the commission are required to live within the city limits, according to Section 2, Division 4 of the city’s Code of Ordinances, which established the commission.

Councilman Andre Knight, who is also president of the local chapter of the NAACP, said he spoke to Dancy prior to the meeting and he was willing to step down to avoid problems. Knight said Dancy was just doing what the NAACP asked him to do.

City Clerk Pam Casey said she accepted Knight’s recommendation for Dancy over the phone as it’s usually done for commission representatives of other organizations like the NAACP. Dancy’s nomination wasn’t reviewed by the City Council before he joined the commission.

City Attorney Jep Rose said the council could alter the ordinance to change the residency requirement, but he wasn’t aware of that ever having been done in the city’s history.

A member of the commission said Dancy’s presence had a chilling effect at monthly meetings. The stated purpose of the commission is to promote understanding, respect and harmony among all people.

Dancy operates a website and Facebook page on which he brags about being an agitator. He makes repeated references to white people being “Special C’s” and black people that he disagrees with are labeled “Safe Black Folk.”

Dancy stated online that he will continue to attend and record meetings.

Human Relations Commission Listens To Latinos Concerns But Steve Stevenson Comments Though

The meeting was called to order by Linwood Williams. He entertained a motion to approve the minutes of the February meeting, it was moved and second but there was no vote.

Williams turned meeting over to Archie Jones the HRC Director to introduce our guest. Just before the guest was allowed to address the HRC I asked did we get a 2nd on the vote on approving the minutes and Williams said yes. I said did we vote and he said no. He said that was a point of order so we need to take a vote. Vote taken and moved forward.

Archie asked that we go around the room and we introduce ourselves.

The guest began sharing some of their concerns.

The guest shared that some of the females have experienced taking their children to school and getting stopped by the police. The females and their children may sit beside the road for hours and the vehicle my get towed because they do not have the proper documentation. They stressed that sometimes it is the lack of not knowing what they need to do and that they need to be educated on such. They want to connect with different folk such as law enforcement and other to be educated.

Steve Stevenson HRC member (an attorney), he stated that the reason why y’all may be stopped and your cars towed is because you are illegal. Steve said you are driving illegal and the cars may not be in your name and other. Cars may have fictions tags. Wow!

Last month when Archie brought it to the HRC attention that the Latino community wanted to come talk to us, Steve was getting into legalities about them being illegal and other. I stressed then that we will not get into the legal stuff because that ain’t what we are about. We just need to listen to their concerns.

The guest want a relation with other nationalities because they feel left out. They want a contact person that they can reach out to when problems arise such a direct contact with someone in law enforcement and elsewhere. They say they just want to talk but most important need to know who a contact person could be.

The guest shared some real good concerns.

I told them they need to invite the Rocky Mount Police and the Nash and Edgecombe County Sheriff Offices to come to them where they feel confortable like at a church or somewhere. I said I know the Edgecombe County Sheriff meet with the Latino community at a church where they feel comfortable. One of the guest said some others couldn’t be attend at 4 PM meeting because they were working. I said again that is why y’all should host the meeting and have it when it is good time for some others.

Archie introduced the guest to a Lt. of the Rocky Mount Police Department. The Lt. agreed with me that they should invite the police to come to them in their community. He gave them some numbers to call and his direct cell number.

One of the guest talked about how social media mess up things because of the way it is used. She say they hear things such as ICE but then when they call law enforcement to ask if anything is going on and the police said they have not heard anything but they see it on Social Media and it do not be correct information. When this false news get out the Latino community get uneasy. She stressed the need to have face to face communication with the police department.

The guest talked about how they just want to be accepted. They said they want to spend their money in the area but they drive to Raleigh now because that is where they feel comfortable.

I feel we had a great meeting. We talked about some suggestions in helping them to move forward.
