Princeville NC – Ward 4 Race Outcome Between Dr. Glenda Knight And Calvin Sherrod Was Quite Interesting

image

Ward 4 race was quite interesting. The DCN News Blog Online TV didn’t endorse anyone of these candidates simply because neither attended the candidates forum. However I find it real interesting that Sherrod only lost by 7 votes. I was looking for it to be a blowout but obviously there are some citizens who feel that Sherrod is their man. Sherrod former town commissioner was defeated during the last election as he was on the commission with the former mayor and one other commissioner who I named the Princeville 3 because they kept some b.s. going on for 4 years. The town lost their books during his tenure.

It is my opinion that Dr. Knight will have to do a real good job over the next 4 years because this seat could be up for grabs.

Princeville NC – Mayor Bobbie Darnell Jones Beat Out Yolanda Thigpen Whom Some Thought Was Going To Be A Close Race

image

The citizens of Princeville voted to give Mayor Bobbie Darnell Jones another 4 year term to carry on with his intentions of making “Princeville Great Again” as campaigned on 4 years ago after inheriting some mess. Mayor Jones has to add on to his campaign from 4 years ago now since the flood to make the town “Build Back Bigger, Better, Bolder!!”

I recognize and understand that anyone has the right to run for an elected office however I feel like the timing must always be right. I felt the timing was not right for all of the candidates that were trying to unseat Mayor Jones because I feel like he deserved another 4 years especially after the flood came in and set the town back.

I am proud of how Mayor Jones carried himself during the campaign because I strongly feel he took some cheap shots that were uncalled for and also were half-trues.

Princeville Town Hall Meeting

The meeting went well however I could not understand why a couple of commissioners voted against having a Princeville’s Founders Day. It will not cost the town a dime. Yes I know the speed bump and some other issues are very important, I don’t get it when the solution is this need to be done first. Well why the commissioners can’t work on all of the things? A board of commissioners must be able to multi-task.

I understand the plea for speed bumps on Otis Avenue and was compared to where the mayor lives however Otis Avenue is a long stretch versus a cuddle sack. I believe the solution to dealing with the speed issue will be taken care of.

A former commissioner spoke during public comments and I think he just wanted to hear himself talk. He talked about the attorney not being there and he walked in. He talked about when will LGC turn the books back over to Princeville and that question was answered. He talked about filing a complaint against the town manager and talking about he had witnesses. What? Happened after the last month’s meeting and you come to this meeting talking you gonna file a complaint. Crazy! File the damn thang! Probably has no validity so therefore he has not filed it.

Overall a very good meeting carried out without much drama.

Well as I always say, look at the meeting for yourself and put your own spin on it.

Princeville NC – Princeville Volunteer Fire Department Report Gets Heated Up During The Princeville August Monthly Meeting

The Political Agitator response: I learned that the Princeville Volunteer Fire Department is just that volunteer. Princeville do not pay anything towards the fire department. The fire department receives around 92% of $106,000 from Edgecombe County. The Fire Marshal talked about how the department operates and how well trained and staffed the department is along with the fire rating and more. Please watch to see how the discussion got heated up. For me I think the commissioners should have asked the Town manager to research and to see if what the Fire Marshal was asking for is something that the town should and could do in the future. I don’t know the Fire Marshal however he appears to be an intelligent and savy young man. I believe because of the way he speaks he somewhat intimidates some folks as if he is arrogant and all about himself. I believe he gave a very thorough report and that as he stated, the commissioners need to look at what is required of fire department, what it means to Princeville and the citizens. I left the meeting shaking my damn head because I thought that the thing to do was to again let the new Town Manager research what the Fire Marshal presented.

Princeville motions, meeting deemed illegal – Daily Southerner

PRINCEVILLE — PRINCEVILLE — Two motions made and approved by the former board of commissioners were unanimously deemed illegal Monday during the town’s regularly scheduled meeting.

The board also deemed the final December meeting conducted by the former board illegal as well. The motions were two of four made after a 45-minute closed session.

A letter sent to the state auditor’s office in July 2013 was at the forefront of the issue. The letter was written by former town attorney, Chuck Watts, to the state auditor concerning questionable credit card purchases and travel expenses made by former Mayor Priscilla Everette-Oates. Former Commissioner Isabelle Purvis Andrews, former Town Manager Maggie Boyd and former town clerk Diana Draughn’s names were also mentioned in the allegations. Details of the letter were not released. – See more at: http://www.dailysoutherner.com/local/x1768006566/Princeville-motions-meeting-deemed-illegal#sthash.Fr5HOzdH.dpuf
