TARBORO — Deep budget cuts will be a topic of discussion when the Edgecombe County Board of Education meets at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the district board room, located in the administration building at 415 Pearl St. in Tarboro.
The 2012-2013 budget resolution calls for $2.2 million in cuts, including seven classroom teaching positions. The number of teacher assistants, school clerical positions and custodian positions has also been reduced as part of the cuts. (More)
Response: Board members will be sworn in. May be a lot of folks attending because I understand any staff members who can’t drive buses will not have a job at the end of June. My question is do that apply to staff members who have a medical reason for not driving the bus?

Response: Video coming soon of this meeting. You need to see this video and to be at the next meeting. This meeting was very interesting especially the discussion about closing the Alternative School located at Roberson School and cutting the travel expense and training expense for board members.
I don’t recall board member Attorney Teresa Bryant stating where she stood on the issue of the school closing in regards to how she would vote. She had several questions in regards to what grounds would the closing be based on and was really concerned about not having an alternative in place.
What I found strange about the article not mentioning the conversation whereby the Board Chair Ann Kent asked the board to consider cutting travel and training expenses at the next meeting. Kent said she felt the board travel and training needed to be cut because their were cuts within the school system and she felt it was only fair that the board cut as well. Vice chair Evelyn Wilson said she had a problem with Kent talking about cutting these things that are most important to the board. Wilson said don’t be trying to cut these things just because she do not attend the trainings and never attend the trainings so don’t stop others from going to the training.
