Election Results Just Because You Campaigned More, Kept The Most Noise, Spent The Most Money Mean What? Folk Let The Recent Election Be A Teachable Moment!

Just because you campaign more, keep the most noise, spend the most money don’t mean you are the better candidate. You see the work you do will speak for you and not the b.s. that you say.

Folk just don’t get it. You see folk need to learn that you don’t just come out during election time and think you are going to win elections.

I followed some local elections real close because I was very much interested in the outcome and because some folk who lived in those areas were communicating with me about the elections.

I am so glad that the folk in Princeville voted to give Mayor Bobbie Jones another 4 years defeating 1st time candidate Yolanda Thigpen.

Former Princeville Town Councilman Calvin Sherrod almost won a seat back on the council but 1st time candidate Dr. Glenda Knight was able to win the seat after Pamela Ransome decided not to seek re-election.

I am so glad that the folk in Tarboro voted to give Town Councilwoman Sabrina Pettaway Bynum a 4 year term after being appointed to fill the unexpired term of the late Taro Knight. Pettaway Bynum defeated Rev. Roy Gray and Quincy Robinson. Taro Roy Gray’s former campaign manager over the years ran against Rev. Gray who had served on the council for several years.

One thing candidates need to understand is that if you can get folk to go vote during early voting then you can about tell how many votes you will get. You see in the Mayor Jones and Town Councilwoman Pettaway Bynum worked where it count by getting folk to early vote. When the early votes came on the screen I could tell that they were going to win it. Most of the time in small races but in some cases big races also, the early voting makes all of the difference.

I Unfriended Greg Higgs on Facebook because he wanted to use my video of the candidates forum to attempt to get his candidate Yolanda Thigpen elected over Mayor Bobbie Jones. Well I had no problem with him sharing the video but damn just tell the whole truth and not put bullshit out there. When I asked him not to do it he did it anyway. And after I Unfriended Higgs Thigpen came on my page and my some kinda response that made no sense and then immediately blocked me so I can not even see her page however Greg can see my page. It is a difference in Unfriending and Blocking. But it is all good. I ain’t mad with nobody. Just want to clear that up for folk that don’t know the whole story.

Folk let the recent election be a teachable moment. Were you listening to what the candidates had to say? Look at what the candidates were doing before the election and then follow what they do after the election.

After elections the following song always come to my mind, “Tell Me If You Still Care – SOS Band”

Tarboro NC – Sabrina Pettaway Bynum Has Earned A Seat On The Council After Being Appointed To Fill The Unexpired Term Of Taro Knight

image

Sabrina Pettaway Bynum was able to not only win the appointment to fill the unexpired term of the late Taro Knight but the citizens have spoken and she will serve a 4 year term representing Ward 4. I am glad that the citizens chose Pettaway Bynum because I feel she deserved a chance to serve for the next 4 years so she can show them that she can and will represent.

I love to see young capable and willing folk get involved in politics. I strongly feel that when young folk get involved and do a good job it is potential there to draw in younger folk.

Princeville NC – Ward 4 Race Outcome Between Dr. Glenda Knight And Calvin Sherrod Was Quite Interesting

image

Ward 4 race was quite interesting. The DCN News Blog Online TV didn’t endorse anyone of these candidates simply because neither attended the candidates forum. However I find it real interesting that Sherrod only lost by 7 votes. I was looking for it to be a blowout but obviously there are some citizens who feel that Sherrod is their man. Sherrod former town commissioner was defeated during the last election as he was on the commission with the former mayor and one other commissioner who I named the Princeville 3 because they kept some b.s. going on for 4 years. The town lost their books during his tenure.

It is my opinion that Dr. Knight will have to do a real good job over the next 4 years because this seat could be up for grabs.

Princeville NC – Mayor Bobbie Darnell Jones Beat Out Yolanda Thigpen Whom Some Thought Was Going To Be A Close Race

image

The citizens of Princeville voted to give Mayor Bobbie Darnell Jones another 4 year term to carry on with his intentions of making “Princeville Great Again” as campaigned on 4 years ago after inheriting some mess. Mayor Jones has to add on to his campaign from 4 years ago now since the flood to make the town “Build Back Bigger, Better, Bolder!!”

I recognize and understand that anyone has the right to run for an elected office however I feel like the timing must always be right. I felt the timing was not right for all of the candidates that were trying to unseat Mayor Jones because I feel like he deserved another 4 years especially after the flood came in and set the town back.

I am proud of how Mayor Jones carried himself during the campaign because I strongly feel he took some cheap shots that were uncalled for and also were half-trues.

Pinetops Election 2 New Commissioners Candidates Beat Out The Incumbents, Board Is Now 3 Black Females And 2 White Males

image

Well the citizens in Pinetops either didn’t like how the incumbents Suzanne Coker Craig and Joyce E. Tolson were representing or Donald Webb and Barbara Jean Taylor did some major campaigning on issues that are dear to them. I would have thought that Coker Craig may have been victorious since she campaigned on Green Light services in Pinetops when it had been taken away.

Donald Webb is co-owner of the florist shop in Pinetops and obviously is well liked.

I don’t know Barbara Taylor but I heard she is the niece of a former late pastor of Pinetops.

Pinetops now has a 3 – 2 black majority board as Taylor will join Florence Pender and Brenda Barnes. Visit the Town of Pinetops website to learn more about them.

Today Is Election Day And It Is Up To You Who You Vote For

During this election I can’t vote for anyone however I can support candidates. I make it known who I support because I know the candidates and also I video them if they attend candidates forum. Once they do I make my comments based on the video and also what I know about them. I don’t make anything up and stand behind everything I say.

I make it known who I support because during all elections I am contacted by some folk asking who I support. I tell them why I support them however I don’t tell them who they should support unless they ask. If they ask I tell them who I feel is the better candidate and that again is based on what the candidates campaign on and because I know them on a personal level. I could say a lot more about the candidates however I do not unless I am working on someone’s campaign. I am not working on anyone’s campaign so therefore my I try to keep it to what they say they are doing, have done and gonna do.

I have made it clear over the years that anyone running for office in Edgecombe County but not limited to, I am watching and will hold them accountable.

After today when the results come in, I wish all of the candidates who win their perspective seats the best. The citizens will have spoken and the votes will be in so that is how democracy works.

I will post the results tonight as they come in but you can follow the results as they come in on the Edgecombe County Board of Elections website and/or your local board and also on the State Board of Elections website.
