The Daily Southerner Newspaper last day was yesterday Friday May 30, 2014. This is going to be interesting because there will be a lot of meetings in the Tarboro area, school board, county commissioners and other will now have to be covered by the Rocky Mount Telegram alone. I believe the Southerner did a more thorough reporting on the news in the Tarboro area.
Daily Southerner closes after 125-year run
TARBORO — A Sept. 12, 2013, story published on the website and on the front page of The Daily Southerner about the review and analysis of travel and expense records from July 2006 to June 2011 of former Town Manager Sam Noble incorrectly characterized the conclusion of a report produced by Jackson Investigations and provided to the Tarboro Town Council. The headline should have read, “Report questions purchases by Noble”. The report did not conclude that Noble misappropriated funds. We apologize for the error. (More)
TARBORO — By many the standards of many, Curmulius “Butch” Dancy II may be considered one of the luckiest men in the world because of his birthday. The Pinetops native was born on Christmas Day, and this Christmas, Dancy will turn 50 years old.
Dancy has not planned a big party, nor will he be looking for lots of gifts from his family and friends. He said he plans to enjoy his birthday and Christmas by giving gifts to the people he loves. (More)

TARBORO — Filing in the May 8 Primary Election gets underway at noon Monday and the Edgecombe County Board of Elections (BOE) is gearing up for some interesting races. Filing for the election continues through Feb. 29 and may be done on the fourth floor of the County Administration Building in Tarboro. (More)
TARBORO — John H. Walker, a veteran newspaperman with more than 35 years experience, has been named editor and publisher of The Daily Southerner. Walker replaces Mosby “Chip” Wigginton and assumes his new duties today.
“I’m excited about the future for the Daily Southerner,” Walker said. “I look forward to becoming involved in the community and joining in the effort to make our community a better place to live work and raise a family.” (More)
