Author and activist Cornel West was arrested while demonstrating in Ferguson, Missouri, on Monday.
West was in Ferguson as part of the “Ferguson October” rally, which has been attended by over 1,000 protesters.

During an interview last week with Democracy Now, author and activist Cornel West offered harsh criticism of President Barack Obama, calling him a “Rockefeller Republican in blackface” and not someone who is actually looking out for the best interests of the impoverished. Response: I have no problem with Tavis nor Cornel saying what they want to say however my question is the good ole boys have fought him on everything he has done since he has been “our” President. My question is what can he do about Poverty alone?
I feel all the Democrats and Republicans ought to be working on the POVERTY issue and if not then they don’t need to be representing us.
I strongly believe in holding folks accountable for their actions but I also recognize that some things may be beyond their control.
It has recently been reported that if poverty goes up by just .1% this year, it will be the worst poverty that America has experienced since 1965. Peter Edelman, director of the Georgetown Center on Poverty, Inequality and Public Policy, attributes the poverty increase to a host of factors, including globalization, outsourcing, immigration, and an attack on unionization. How did Cornel West become the administration’s No. 1 gadfly? The noted African-American scholar and radio host may have helped Barack Obama into the White House, but he has spent the better part of the president’s term taking shots at him, calling him a “black mascot of Wall Street oligarchs,” among other names. “These last few weeks have only proven my point about Brother Obama,” West says in his signature “one love” voice as he talks about the debt-reduction debacle on Capitol Hill. “He simply caved in again.” (Read more)
Note: I challenge black politicians however those I challenge hands are not tied and can speak up and do more but choose not to. I find it a little different with “our” President. I believe his hands are tied as it relates to many, many issues that we are faced with. It has been proven that the good “ole” boys are not going to support him on anything that he does.
