The Greenville City Council has called a special meeting next week to appoint someone to fill the mayor’s seat left vacant by Allen Thomas this week. The appointee will serve the remainder of Thomas’ term until the municipal elections in November.
The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on July 6 in the council’s chambers at City Hall, 200 W. Fifth St., and is open to the public. Earlier this month Thomas announced that he accepted an offer to be the Executive Director of the North Carolina Global TransPark (GTP), a division of the North Carolina Department of Transportation. Thomas submitted his official resignation during a special council meeting on Monday and the resignation went into effect at 8 a.m. on Wednesday. (Read more)
