Republican led House and Senate Chambers rescinded Gov. Cooper’s Special Called Extra Session for Legislative Redistricting

Today the Republican led House and Senate Chambers rescinded Gov. Cooper’s Special Called Extra Session for Legislative Redistricting. The supermajority claimed the Proclamation was not in accordance with Article III, section 5, item 7 of the NC Constitution because in their opinion – Redistricting does not rise to the threshold of being “extraordinary” and it was claimed that the Governor did not confer with the Council of State. The US Supreme Court on Monday unanimously upheld the lower court’s ruling that 28 legislative districts were unconstitutional as they were racially-gerrymandered. Fixing these maps before the legislature adjourns would immediately remedy this violation of the US Constitution and the consequent harm of unfair maps / unequal representation. It would also benefit NC in many ways, two of which are; 1) save time and 2) save taxpayer money that a special session later in the year would cost. We stand with Governor Cooper; We stand with the US Constitution;  We stand for Equal Representation for North Carolinians #NCGA #NCPOL
