Forum focuses on prison reform – Rocky Mount Telegram

The Rocky Mount Racial Justice Group recently hosted a Black Lives Matter Forum at N.C. Wesleyan College.

The Rocky Mount Racial Justice Group, which was formed in 2015 in response to the slaying of nine people at the Mother Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, announced that it was holding the forum “in the context of the current electoral season.”

The meeting focused on the way perceived systemic racism fuels mass incarceration and the school-to-prison pipeline.

Ryan Adams, one of the members of the Rocky Mount Racial Justice group who led the forum, said he knew the issue was relevant to the Twin Counties today.

“I am an English teacher at Rocky Mount High School and I am thankful every day if someone is not is detention. The school-to-prison pipeline is all too real.” (Read more)
