The Watch Dog response: I am so glad the Rocky Mount City Council is continuing to move forward on the Community Facility. It is time to make it happen.
Rocky Mount’s Downtown Community Facility is one step closer to reality after Tuesday’s City Council meeting.
The Council approved a limited notice to proceed with Barnhill/Holt Construction that will allow the company to finalize designs for the facility and apply for permits needed for construction. The Council voted 6-1 for the proposal.
Councilman W.B. Bullock voted against the motion. He asked City Manager Charles Penny if the money to be paid to Barnhill/Holt Construction — $248,856 — was included in the $481,917 paid out in the first phase of the facility’s construction. Penny said the money was a separate amount. (Rocky Mount Telegram)
