Former mayor files multi-million dollar lawsuit – The Rocky Mount Telegram

Former Princeville mayor Priscilla Everette-Oates and her attorneys held a press conference Friday at the federal courthouse in Charlotte to announce the filing of a multi-million dollar lawsuit against local and state officials amid claims of false allegations in separate embezzlement and Medicaid fraud allegations.

Everette-Oates is asking for about $123 million, plus court and attorneys’ fees, claiming that charges were brought against her in retaliation for her investigation into missing FEMA funds allotted to Princeville after Hurricane Floyd in 1999.

Seventeen felony charges against Everette-Oates were dismissed in March, and the Medicaid payment suspension amid fraud charges against D-POM, LLC, the behavioral health services company Everette-Oates ran with her husband, Duarthur Oates, was lifted in September, citing insufficient evidence of fraud.  (Source: Read more)
