PINETOPS – SouthWest Edgecombe will be physically smaller than almost every team it plays this season. But it was difficult to see that Friday night.
The Cougars (12-1) smothered East Bladen’s power running game all night and imposed their will on offense in a convincing 41-21 victory in the second round of the 2-A state playoffs.
“We talk about how we have to play bigger than we are, big hearts and with intention,” coach Jonathan Cobb said. “That’s how we are able to get that production out of that defense.”
East Bladen (10-3) struggled all night to consistently gain yardage against a stingy Cougars’ defense. Outside of a few longer runs early in the game, the Eagles were encased by a group of defenders close to the line of scrimmage. (Source: Read more)
