The sad state of race relations in this country is the headline special on today’s menu, but not many orders are being placed to move beyond talk.
The removal of the Confederate flag from the grounds of the South Carolina State Capitol did indeed right a wrong, but it is not a cure-all for this country’s acute addiction to racism. Confederate flags and monuments are merely symbols. The removal of them does little or nothing to carve out the core of the problem.
Like any addiction, there must first be a desire to seek a cure, coupled with willpower and determination. Unfortunately, none of these ingredients appears to be prevalent in America’ addictive battle with racism. It appears to be more advantageous to serve denial as the main course and discredit the messenger for dessert whenever issues arise that give a racist perception. (Source: Read more)
