Tarboro charter school cuts 5 teachers – 9 WNCT

TARBORO, N.C. (WNCT) – Some charter school children are now with a new teacher after North East Carolina Prep let go five positions on Friday.

Executive Director Miles Brite told WNCT this move within the first month of school is from the need to consolidate.

At least one let go was a kindergarten teacher.

Brite said they had expected 80 students but only got around 60. (Source: Read more)

Kentucky clerk again asks for delay on gay-marriage licenses – Yahoo News

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — A Kentucky county clerk who was recently jailed for denying same-sex couples marriage licenses filed an appeal Friday that asks for another delay in issuing the licenses.

Attorneys for Kim Davis, who objects to gay marriage on religious grounds, argued in their motion to the Sixth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals that all the same-sex couples who sued Davis for a license received one from her deputies while she was in jail. Therefore, they said, her office should not be required to issue them to any more couples once she returns to work. (Source: Read more)

America continues to suffer from an addiction to racism – by Gardenia Hobbs

The sad state of race relations in this country is the headline special on today’s menu, but not many orders are being placed to move beyond talk.

The removal of the Confederate flag from the grounds of the South Carolina State Capitol did indeed right a wrong, but it is not a cure-all for this country’s acute addiction to racism. Confederate flags and monuments are merely symbols. The removal of them does little or nothing to carve out the core of the problem.

Like any addiction, there must first be a desire to seek a cure, coupled with willpower and determination. Unfortunately, none of these ingredients appears to be prevalent in America’ addictive battle with racism. It appears to be more advantageous to serve denial as the main course and discredit the messenger for dessert whenever issues arise that give a racist perception. (Source: Read more)
