Barnett: State leaders governing by illusion in NC – News & Observer

The Political Agitator response: Very good article! Enough said!

The political contest in North Carolina is no longer between Democrats and Republicans. The Democrats have been vanquished, undone by their disorganization and lack of conviction and gerrymandered into irrelevance.

Now the contest is between Republicans and reality. And, for now, reality is losing.

That doesn’t mean reality will be overcome. It means an illusion is prevailing while the state’s true condition deteriorates.

The central illusion is that cutting taxes and state government spending will spur the economy and improve the lives of North Carolinians of all incomes. GOP leaders trumpet the state’s job growth and shrinking unemployment rate as indicators of how their policies are having an effect.

The economy is improving, yes, but it is being lifted by a national recovery, not by cutting off unemployment benefits or lowering taxes on the wealthy and profitable corporations.

And the unemployment rate is going down. But there’s more to it than one number. The reality is that the percentage of working-age North Carolinians who are participating in the labor force (59.8 percent) is at its lowest since January 1976. In 2014, the labor force actually contracted by 42,245 workers and is now smaller than it was in any month since January 2010. (Source: Read more)

Obama Weighs In On Deflate-Gate Ahead Of Superbowl – TPM

The Political Agitator response: I agree with the President a great observation.

President Obama on Sunday would not say whether the New England Patriots cheated by playing with under-inflated footballs during their Jan. 18 game against the Indianapolis Colts.

“Well, I think that if you break the rules then you break the rules,” Obama said when asked about the controversy by NBC’s Savannah Guthrie during an interview ahead of the Superbowl.

The president did have a suggestion for the National Football League going forward, however.

“The one thing I did not realize — and I’ll bet most fans didn’t — is that each team . . . (Source: Read more)

Judge to take several weeks to rule on NC voter ID challenge Read – News & Observer

RALEIGH — A Wake County judge plans to take two to three weeks to decide whether a lawsuit challenging North Carolina’s voter ID law should be dismissed or proceed to trial this summer.

Mike Morgan, a Wake County Superior Court judge, briefed attorneys Friday after listening to several hours of arguments for and against the dismissal request.

The case is rooted in an overhaul of North Carolina election law that was adopted by the Republican-led General Assembly in 2013.

Under the sweeping changes, which are also being challenged in federal court, voters going to the polls in 2016 will have to show one of seven forms of photo identification to cast a ballot. (Source: Read more)

Charter Schools

My response to my white friend whom we had just a little discussion about the North East Carolina Prep Charter School issue as they fired John Westburg former founding member and Executive Director whom didn’t think testing matter even though it is state mandated.

“I ain’t into Charter Schools but I do want them to serve their purpose because if they do not, the children will be the one that lose in the end. It is all about the children.” Curmilus Dancy II Sunday February 1, 2015

So for all of my haters, those whom call me a racist, militant and other and always trying to twist what I have to say when I say what I mean and mean what I say, “Now Run & Tell That!”
