It was a banner second year for the SouthWest Edgecombe football team under the guidance head coach Jonathan Cobb in 2014.
The Cougars marched to a 10-4 record, a second-place finish in the Eastern Plains Conference and an appearance in the third round of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association’s 2-A state playoffs.
Leading the way for SWE was fullback Devontrell Hyman, and the senior was recently voted the Offensive Player of the Year for the EPC by the league’s head coaches.
“He was a one-man wrecking ball,” Cobb said. “I mean, we had a pretty good offensive line, and a pretty good stable of other backs.
