The Political Agitator response: So they found some money.
A former Jesse Helms aide and lobbyist for charter schools is joining Gov. Pat McCrory’s administration as a deputy chief of staff.
Jimmy Broughton was Helms’ chief of staff from 1994 to 2003, when the senator retired. Since leaving government, Broughton has been a lobbyist with the Womble Carlyle law firm. The firm’s website credits him with playing “a key role in the passage of legislation lifting the cap on the number of charter schools in the state.”
He’s registered this year to lobby on behalf of Vidant Health, Charter Schools USA, High Point Market Authority and Arts North Carolina, according to state records.
His salary in the newly created position will be $130,000. He’ll join chief of staff Thomas Stith and deputy chief John Baldwin. He starts work on Jan. 5. (Source: Read more)
