The Political Agitator response: Edgecombe County finest. This is great because I was there and had a vote when he was voted on by the Edgecombe County Democratic Party as the nominee to send his name to the County Commissioners to appoint him in 1996.

Edgecombe County Sheriff James Knight was sworn into office Monday for his fifth term.

Knight clinched his re-election race in November against newcomer Danny Colbert by winning 87.2 percent of the vote, according to results from the N.C. State Board of Elections.

He took the oath of office at noon at N.C. Superior Court in Tarboro.

“The fact that I had my wife, Margaret, and grandson, Jayden, there participating in the swearing-in ceremony meant the world to me,” Knight said. “Thank you all so much for everything you have done for me.”

Knight was appointed sheriff in 1997 to take over for Sheriff Phil Ellis after he resigned. Knight has been re-elected every four years since. (Source: Read more)
