TARBORO — While Edgecombe County Public Schools (ECPS) is ramping up efforts in preparation for year-end state assessment testing starting June 2, North East Carolina Prep (NECP) is effectively going through the motions of testing its students.

Since Monday, students in third-ninth grades at the county’s only charter school have been taking state end-of-grade and end-of-course tests.
The tests – which are a focus of virtually all public school systems – are "not emphasized" at NECP, according to communications director Diane LeFiles.
