USING THE PEN AS A WEAPON by Curtis Gatewood Columnist

As many of you may now realize, I do lots of writing as part of my ‘fighting’ for justice.

Too often we underestimate the power of the pen. The pen has been a weapon long used against us. The lies of a crooked hand have for generations been written and used to tighten the shackles of mental enslavement for the masses of oppressed people. This is why Jesus said – "ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free."

To the contrary, the pen has been powerfully used to bring truth and knowledge. This is why for generations – for oppressed people – reading and writing were illegal, and for the slave to violate such knowledge/truth suppression laws – despite their damnable wickedness – would often result in a death sentence for the slave.

The Bible makes clear the power of the pen. In addition to "The truth shall make you free" or "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge…" There is another powerful written word which says "Study to show thyself approved, a workman needed not be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."

These are just a few examples from hundreds of Biblical references which support the power of a pen which has been ‘rightly’ dipped into the ink of ‘truth’ and written by a steady hand which loves justice. The pen is a weapon of great promise.

When we are at war and fighting a ‘good fight’ against ‘evil people in high places’ we must use every ‘good’ weapon God Has provided. I will write with the deliberate intent to use the pen as a weapon against mental slavery. I will write while remembering so many of my ancestors died trying.
