Around 100 plus citizens from Pinetops and surrounding areas came out to learn about Obamacare or the Affordable Care Act.
Congressman G.K. Butterfield’s office Reginald Speight Economic Field Director and Ray Rogers District Manager for the Congressman came to the little old town of Pinetops to inform the people of Pinetops and surrounding areas about what to expect with the Obamacare.
A short video of the Congressman was shown. Another short video showing information about healthcare. Talked about the workplace there will be a difference according to the size of the workplace.
Not much will change for people on Welfare. Medicaid is expanding. Each state get to decide about the Medicaid expansion. However NC our Governor Pat McCrory chose not to participate in the Medicaid Expansion. The Federal Government will open up places in states that do not participate.
There will be healthcare market places. They will make sure they operate fairly. They will not be able to charge more for pre-existing conditions.
To keep cost down children will be able to stay on the parents plan until 26 however some will be able to stay until the age of 30.
Why wait to enroll? You can only enroll at certain times so you can’t just wait until you get sick. However the government may waive it if you are really, really sick.
Enrollment October 1, 2013 begins – March 31, 2014 end.
Enroll now but Healthcare Plan begin on January 1, 2014.
If not in the plan by March 31, 2014 you will be penalized.
Penalty $95.00 or 1% of taxable income for the first year.
2016 – Annual amount $695 or 2.5% of taxable income so if you do not enroll and you will be taxed this after the end of a tax year.
So when you file your taxes and you see either $95.00 or $695.00 deducted from your check then this is what it is.
