The redrawn 13th District included parts of Edgecombe, Wake, Wilson, Wayne, Durham, Nash, Granville, Franklin, and Vance counties. Locally, much of Edgecombe is included in the district, including Macclesfield, Pinetops, Elm City and Sharpsburg. The district also includes a large potion of Tarboro — from Howard Avenue Extended and Howard Avenue east to Main Street. The boundary then follows Main Street/Highway 64 Business to just past McNair Road. The boundary then goes south before taking a jog and following Kingsboro Road west to Powell Road.

Also included is the portion of the county south of Nobles Mill Pond Road to the point where it intersects with Cokey Road (Highway 43). Source: Daily Southerner

Attention US Congressional 13th District Democrats! We are going to be holding a 13th District meeting at 10 AM on Saturday, January 19th at the Nash County Courthouse in Nashville, NC. This meeting will include (among other things) an 2012 election post-mortem, discussing 2013 party elections including the NCDP officer elections at the February SEC meeting in Durham. Stay tuned for further announcements!

Richardson eager to get to work in N.C. House – Rocky Mount Telegram

NASHVILLE – Dr. Bobbie Richardson said she is looking forward to jumping into her new role representing Nash and Franklin counties in the N.C. House.

A committee of Democrats voted Tuesday morning to nominate Richardson for the District 7 seat formerly held by Angela Bryant. Gov. Pat McCrory was expected to approve Richardson’s appointment Wednesday morning so she could be sworn inlater that day with other members of the N.C. House. (More)

 

Longtime Edgecombe County commissioner steps down – Rocky Mount Telegram

After serving for 22 years on the Edgecombe County Board of Commissioners, Charlie Harrell has decided to step down.

Harrell announced his resignation during a board meeting Monday night.

“I see it as an opportunity to get some fresh vision on the board and hopefully a younger person who is dedicated to good government in Edgecombe County,” Harrell said during a phone interview Tuesday. (More)
