Okay let’s deal with the whole picture. I get so sick and tired of folks getting all emotional after the fact. Hell many times the same folks who claim they are so concerned are just as guilty because what in the hell did you do about the situation before it came to this point?
TARBORO, N.C. – An Edgecombe County woman is facing felony child abuse charges, after a child in her custody was sexually assaulted and beaten.
The child’s mother tells us her two-year-old daughter was in 20-year-old Chelsey Speight’s custody when she was severly beaten and sexually assaulted on Tuesday. The mother also says another man was in the home with Speight.
Edgecombe County Deputies tell us Speight was arrested and charged with Felony Child Abuse and Misdemeanor Child Abuse. She was given a $1,000 bond for the felony charge and a $500 bond for the misdemeanor charge.
The child is expected to be okay.
More arrests are expected. (More)
Response: I got a phone call late Monday night about the incident above. On Tuesday I received a chat message on Facebook about this issue from someone who was concerned about the situation.
Now the last couple of days I have been reading bits and pieces about the situation and on yesterday I began to receive messages asking me did I know about the situation and what could I do. I have also had a couple of face to face conversations with a couple of folks. I have also received a call from the NAACP.
As it relates to the NAACP this is not a NAACP issue as it stands.
Well folks anyone that knows me know I do my homework. I am totally pissed about what I am hearing as it relates to this situation.
First I am going to respond to the above media report and give you my opinion of the report and what people are saying.
First of all the article said the woman is facing a felony child abuse charge. I repeat facing. So to me that means the investigation is still going on and when they get enough evidence they will actually charge the woman with a felony charge.
I received the call on Monday night and the chat message on Tuesday so when did the situation actually occur?
I would think that after the Edgecombe County Deputies get enough evidence the charges will either increase or decrease for this woman.
Now I have been hearing people say the charges should be more. But I would think the charges are based on the evidence at hand. The above does not state that the woman is the person that actually did this to the child and it mentions that another man was in the home. So what does that mean? I don’t know I was not there.
Okay now I will share briefly what I have heard, I don’t know because I don’t know these folks but I do know some of the family members of the child involved.
There are 3 sides to this story the mother, the accuser and the police. Now I am going to give my side which actually means nothing and has no bearing on the situation but I can give my opinion and it is up to others how they accept it.
So my concerns are why was this black child in the custody of a 20 year old white girl? The mother do not have any black family and/or friends that could have kept the baby? But since she chose to deal with the white girl let’s don’t make this a race issue.
So what is the character of the mother? I have been told the mother has been leaving the child with anyone.
So what is the character of the white girl?
I understand that drugs have been mentioned as it relates to the mother and the white girl.
So who knows where the actual abuse took place, who can come forward and say they were there? So how do I know if the situation took place while in the custody of the white girl or while the child was with the mother?
What is really pissing me the hell off is from what I have heard from folks I have spoken to they knew there are some issues surrounding the welfare of this child so what in the hell did these folks who are so concerned and call themselves friends of the mother do about making sure the child was in a safe environment? You see it should not be about the mother but the welfare of the child so if you know the child has been left in some bad situations what did you do to make sure it didn’t happen again. I have no friends who do not be open and honest with me because I am going to be open and honest with everyone I come in contact with. I don’t give a damn how they receive it.
So is anyone concerned about the welfare of this child when the child is released from the hospital? Do you know where the child will end up and with whom?
Now I am for justice for this child but seeking justice for the child means everyone involved must pay a price. This means I question why the child was left with a 20 year old white girl. She do not look like she is a stable person so why?
If we are so concerned about justice for this child then let’s start at the root of the issue up until the point the child was abused. If you want true justice then I hope you will accept the outcome whatever it may be when the investigation is over.
What we have got to do is to be open and honest with everyone because we have got to send a message to black parents that you must lay down all the bull manure when you bring a child in the world because it ain’t about you anymore. If you ain’t ready to be a parent then do not put your child in harms way. I do not condone ignant ass parents because the child can be put in the custody of someone who can give them a safe environment to the best of their ability.
If you truly want justice then you will join me and do your own research to get to the bottom of this situation and to allow law enforcement to complete the investigation and we can then weigh all sides. Right now I am getting one side the family side. The street side is irrelevant because the only thing that will matter is the family side, the accuser side and the law enforcement side.
So there you have it for those who have contacted me and for those who want to contact me to talk about the situation.
I have always heard the truth will set you free.
