New York Times Endorses President Barack Obama – New York Times

The economy is slowly recovering from the 2008 meltdown, and the country could suffer another recession if the wrong policies take hold. The United States is embroiled in unstable regions that could easily explode into full-blown disaster. An ideological assault from the right has started to undermine the vital health reform law passed in 2010. Those forces are eroding women’s access to health care, and their right to control their lives. Nearly 50 years after passage of the Civil Rights Act, all Americans’ rights are cheapened by the right wing’s determination to deny marriage benefits to a selected group of us. Astonishingly, even the very right to vote is being challenged. (More)

NC NAACP Continues "Million Voters March III Campaign" With GOTV Tour Across North Carolina:

New stops announced in Southern Pines, Rocky Mount, Laurinburg, Winston-Salem and Elizabeth City – See Information Below

DURHAM – The North Carolina State Conference of the NAACP will continue its "Million Voters March III Campaign" with a tour around the state in a lead up to Election Day. The campaign was launched during the NC NAACP State Convention earlier this month and will include tour stops by NC NAACP State Conference President Rev. Dr. William J. Barber, II. With the tour, the NC NAACP plans to: 1) Inspire one million African Americans, Latinos, Native Americans, other minorities, progressive Whites, and friends in the labor and faith communities to vote early; 2) Challenge and report on tactics being used to suppress and block voter participation; and 3) Educate the electorate about the important and critical issues facing North Carolinians in this election.

There are currently sixteen regional events scheduled across the state, with more currently being organized. Additionally, several major civic and faith groups are hosting campaign stops as well. See information on each event below.

"When you understand the history of voter suppression in this nation, then you understand why the NAACP and the civil rights community will challenge any attempt to suppress, block or limit the right to vote as afforded by our Constitution," said Rev. Barber. "The values that people ought to consider when voting this year should be: 1) economic sustainability, addressing poverty, full employment and labor rights; 2) educational equality for all students and children; 3) healthcare for all and ensuring access to Medicare and Medicaid; 4) addressing the continuing inequalities in the criminal justice system for black, brown and poor white people; and 5) protecting, defending and expanding voting rights for all people. If we ever needed to vote, we sure do need to vote now!"

Stops are planned for Pitt, Martin, Lenoir, Pender, Nash/Edgecombe, Pasquotank, Moore, Halifax, Mecklenburg, Scotland, Guilford, Harnett, Forsyth and Cumberland Counties. All of the rallies and news conferences are regional events, with area counties and NAACP branches participating. The campaign has already made stops in Chatham, Wake, Durham and Vance Counties.

Obama, again

Ever since he electrified the 2004 Democratic National Convention with a keynote speech, Barack Obama of Chicago had been marked as a man who might be destined for the White House. Destiny was fulfilled sooner than expected. The then-Illinois senator, a first-termer, was introduced to the next convention four years later as the nominee after a brutal series of primaries that saw him overcome candidates that included Hillary Clinton, the accomplished first lady who now is his secretary of state. Butterfield Cheers Approval of Small Business Credit Initiative to Spur Lending in North Carolina

Butterfield Cheers Approval of Small Business Credit Initiative to Spur Lending in North Carolina

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman G. K. Butterfield (NC-01) today applauded the Obama Administration and the U.S. Department of Treasury in announcing the approval of the second round of State Small Business Credit Initiative (SSBCI) funding for North Carolina.  The SSBCI funds are expected to help create new jobs and spur $461 million in additional small business lending in the state.

“Today’s announcement is the delivery of a promise Democrats made to help restore the economy by investing in job creation,” said Butterfield.  “In addition to passing tax cuts for small businesses and championing the Recovery Act, these funds, as authorized in the Small Business Jobs Act, will help eligible small businesses gain the capital they need to grow and thrive.  I applaud the Treasury Department and the Obama Administration for their commitment.”

Overall, the SSBCI program supports small business lending programs in 56 states, territories, and the District of Columbia.  It is an essential component of the Small Business Jobs Act that President Obama signed into law in 2010.

Under the Small Business Jobs Act, North Carolina can access a total of $46.1 million in SSBCI funds, which North Carolina expects will generate $461 million in additional private lending.  SSBCI funds are made available to the state in three equal rounds of funding, and as such, the second tranche is $15.2 million.  During the first round of funding, North Carolina’s program supported 203 loans or investments to small businesses totaling $71.7 million, equal to private financial leverage of $6 for every $1 in federal contribution to date.  Each individual loan or investment averaged $353,262.66.

Under the SSBCI, all states were offered the opportunity to apply for federal funds for state-run programs that partner with private lenders to increase the amount of credit available to small businesses.  The Small Business Jobs Act permits the Secretary of the Treasury to grant special permission for municipalities to apply for a State’s SSBCI allocation if such state did not submit a notice of intent to apply for participation in the SSBCI by November 26, 2010.

SSBCI participants must demonstrate a reasonable expectation that a minimum of $10 in new private lending will result from every $1 in federal funding.  Accordingly, the $1.5 billion federal funding commitment for this program overall is expected to result in at least $15 billion in additional private lending nationwide.

For more information about the SSBCI, please visit link.

Romney seems suspect

Response: Damn how ignant to say that Colin Powell is supporting “Our” current President just because he is Black. (Shaking My Damn Head!)

One way to gauge the judgment of a potential president is to look at who they listen to for advice. By that measure, Mitt Romney seems suspect.

Mitt should have called Nancy Reagan as a reference check on John Sununu, an arrogant bully, who was fired by a president who really hated firing people. Mr. Sununu has been largely absent from public life for 20 years, but Mitt Romney took him out of mothballs and installed him as co-chair of his campaign. His reward? Last night, Sununu said he thought Colin Powell’s second endorsement of Obama for a second time is based on racial affinity. Sununu quickly reversed field, but it will remain one of the more infamous statements of this campaign, although somewhat overwhelmed by the fog of the campaign’s frenzied final days. (More)

Condoleezza Rice Agrees Obama Didn’t Lie About Libya (VIDEO)

Despite most conservatives blatantly politicizing the death of four citizens, including an ambassador, in Libya, Condoleezza Rice has broken from them in her appraisal of the situation. On Fox News, while being interviewed by Greta Van Susteren, she stated:

But when things are unfolding very, very quickly, it’s not always easy to know what is really going on on the ground. And to my mind, the really important questions here are about how information was collected. Did the various agencies really coordinate and share intelligence in the way that we had hoped, with the reforms that were made after 9/11? (More)

“Poverty-fighting programs are not handouts

Debbie Miceli

“Poverty-fighting programs are not handouts — they are investments,” said Irwin Redlener, president of Children’s Health Fund. “Investments in the generation we expect to lead the continuing success of our country.” He went on to say, “Essential programs like the [Earned Income Tax Credit], the Child Tax Credit, the Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit and the American Opportunity Tax Credit actually help fight poverty and help low-income working families make it to the middle class. But these programs appear to be on the Romney-Ryan chopping block.”

Let me ask all the negative folks commenting a question. Wasn’t it Fox news painting Healthcare reform as "Obamacare", and evil, when Republicans in the Bush administration did the same thing, but not for American citizens??? Republicans implemented free for life universal healthcare for every single Iraq citizen with our tax dollars, so if I’m going to pay for healthcare with my tax dollars, then allocate it towards a system for Americans. Where was your anger, your hatred, your bigotry, your outrage then???

Let me ask this? Were you folks against so called big government, and so called socialized healthcare as angry when Republicans, along with President Bush, from "government" took, no stole your tax dollars and gave universal healthcare to undocumented aliens and every single Iraq citizen??? NO you were not!!!! If my tax dollars are going for healthcare it should be for mine!! The insurance companies have no choice its the law now.

Republicans spent $950 million for a free for life universal health care program for every Iraq citizen. Republicans in control of both bodies of Congress in 2003, had no problem taking $950 million of our tax dollars to implement free universal healthcare for all citizens in Iraq, http://georgewbush-whit in Article 31 of their new constitution drafted by staff in the Bush administration. _constitution_en.pdf/iraqi_constituti on_en.pdf

Republicans spent $549 billion for a Medicaid prescription drug program up to 2015 as estimated by the Bush administration, (that wasn’t paid for until President Obama was sworn into office, see J. below, in the Democrat’s detailed spending report), with new cost estimates of a total $1.2 trillion for the total package to 2015, of which $250 million was allocated to healthcare for undocumented immigrants in one of the provisions. Medicare Prescription Drug and Modernization Act of 2003 – Pub.L. 108-173 and in Section 1101 is the provision for healthcare to undocumented aliens. Section 1011 of the MMA titled "Federal Reimbursememt of Emergency Health Services Furnished to Undocumented Aliens". Section 1011 Fact Sheet Federal Reimbursement of Emergency Health Services Furnished to Undocumented Aliens cation/Medicare-Learning-Network-MLN/MLNProducts/downloads/Sect1011_Web05-1 9-06.pdf

A Republican-led appropriations bill in 2001, passed by a GOP Congress and enacted by President Bush, included a mandate that federal employee health insurance plans include contraception and birth control coverage. The legislation cleared the Senate by a voice vote and passed the House 334-94, winning the votes of incumbent Republicans including House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (VA) as well as Sens. Rob Portman (OH), Lindsey Graham (SC), Roger Wicker (MS), Kirk and others.

28 states already have had the mandate in place for the last 10+ years.

The irony is now Republicans and their misinformed supporters, rant and rave, about the same things Republicans did, but not for them, while they demagouged Democrats and President Obama for the attempt to give all Americans healthcare. Hypocrites!!!!!!

You bigoted idiots are so stupid!!!

Where was your anger when 7 embassies and consulates, count them slowly, 1,2,3,4,5,6,7, were attacked under the Bush administration, and he was apologizing for America, and hiding it from the press????

Casualties: U. S. Navy and Marine Corps Personnel Killed and Wounded in Wars, Conflicts, Terrorist Acts, and Other Hostile Incidents

Political Violence Against Americans
1. Paris, France, Sept. 13, 2001: Four men were arrested in Rotterdam on conspiracy to plant a suicide bomber in the U.S. embassy in Paris. The NATO headquarters in Brussels was also targeted. The plot was discovered in July 2001, when a conspirator named Djamel Beghal was arrested in Dubai for passport fraud. He confessed after an interrogation. All the conspirators were part of a small satellite of Al Qaeda.

2. Karachi, Pakistan, June 14, 2002, Feb. 28, 2003, March 15, 2004, and March 2, 2006:The string of bombings and attempted bombings outside the U.S. consulate in Karachi were thought to be in retaliation for the War on Terror in Afghanistan, and later Iraq. The first bomb in June 2002 was a suicide bomber, who killed 12 and injured 51 people. In February 2003, a gunman killed 2 police officers and injured 5 others outside the consulate. In March 2004, an attempted bombing was stopped when police discovered 200 gallons of liquid explosives in the back of a truck. In March 2006, another suicide bomber killed 6 people outside a nearby Marriott Hotel.

3. Tashkent, Uzbekistan, July 30, 2004: The U.S. and Israeli embassies were targeted by suicide bombers. 2 security guards were killed.

4. Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Dec. 6, 2004: Militants breached the outer wall of the U.S. consulate and began shooting, but did not enter the consulate. 5 civilians and the gunmen were killed. 10 people were wounded.

6. Athens, Greece, Jan. 12, 2007: A rocket-propelled grenade was fired into the front of the U.S. embassy around 6 a.m. No one was killed or hurt. A Greek terrorist group called "Revolutionary Struggle" claimed responsibility.

7. Istanbul, Turkey, July 9, 2008: Kurdish Turks open fired around 11 a.m., killing 6 people and injuring 1. The three men had suspected Al Qaeda links, but this was never proven.

8. San’a, Yemen, Sept. 7, 2008: 19 people died and at least 16 were injured when a group of men disguised as police attacked the outer security rim of the U.S. embassy. Al Qaeda affiliate Islamic Jihad of Yemen claimed responsibility.

President Obama an apologist? Laughable!! How could you forget that former President Bush apologized for an attack on the Koran by soldiers, back on May 20, 2008, through his spokeswoman, in a White House press conference, but the tea party thuglicans that have hi jacked the Republican party wasn’t saying that Bush was weak. (scroll halfway down the page)

"He apologized for that in the sense that he said that we take it very seriously," White House press secretary Dana Perino said. "We are concerned about the reaction. We wanted them (Afghanistan), to know that the president knew that this was wrong."
