An FBI investigator has found that just hours before the shooting of Trayvon Martin, George Zimmerman had repeatedly visited several pornographic websites, “aimed toward gay Black men.” The sites visited were Taggaz.com, CocoDorm.com, and Thugboy.com. “Graphic in nature, the sites are premium adult pay sites containing images, videos, and erotic stories of Black ‘thug’ males engaging in sexual acts with other men.“ (More)
First lady Michelle Obama will speak in North Carolina on Wednesday to students and campaign supporters in Durham and Greenville.
The Durham event at N.C. Central University’s McClendon-McDougald Gymnasium is open to the NCCU campus community. Doors open at 11:30 a.m., with Michelle Obama’s remarks scheduled for 1:40 p.m.
In Greenville, the first lady speaks in Williams Arena at East Carolina University’s Minges Coliseum. Doors open at 3 p.m., with her remarks scheduled at 5:45 p.m. (More)
Romney appears to conflate a few things — Obama’s approval rating, the percentage of people who do not pay income taxes and people who rely on government assistance.
There may be some overlap between these groups but they really are not the same thing.
First, let’s start with the notion that nearly half of Americans do not pay income tax. This is one of these “facts” that is not very informative. “Income taxes” are just one type of tax that people pay, and for most working Americans, payroll taxes for Social Security and Medicare far exceed what they pay in income taxes. Moreover, if some people do not pay income taxes, it is because of policies often advocated by Republicans. (More)
If the left and the right are proxies in a class war, then they’re currently fighting to win a battle of public perception. Each side wants the public to see them as on the side of the beleaguered many against the powerful few.
Democrats are vying for victory by supporting tax increases on millionaires and the “Buffett Rule,” which posits that all millionaires should pay at least the same effective tax rates as the middle class. The Occupy Wall Street protesters have turned “We Are The 99 Percent” into a rallying cry. (More)
A renewal of Wake County’s longtime controversy over “neighborhood schools” appears likely on Tuesday, when school board members will receive a proposal for the system’s third assignment plan in as many years.
The developing plan, a product of changing times, board turnover and parental dissatisfaction, has been hatched by school assignment staff under a directive from the board’s Democratic majority. According to early glimpses provided to board members, the new plan will return to addresses tied to specific schools, with an effort to accommodate proximity, stability and diversity. (More)
