I Am For Justice No Matter Who It Is For Or Against, I Will Speak Truth To Power

Dating back to the late 80’s I used to write a lot of letters to the editor to several newspapers. I used to have 1 – 2 letters in the The Tarboro Daily Southerner, The Rocky Mount Telegram and The Raleigh Carolinian almost weekly. However everywhere I go and meet people black and white when they hear my name they immediately connect me to my letters in the papers. They tell me how much they like my writings.

I remember when someone left a message in the Speak Up Column in the Rocky Mount Telegram where one can call on the telephone call without leaving a name and they asked was Curmilus Dancy II a real person because I used to write so many letters. Some times when my dad meet people they think he is the one that writes the letters because he is Curmilus Dancy Sr.

For several years I have not sent many letters to the editor because I have been writing daily on my blog. I haven’t really cared to send what I write to the newspapers. However recently I have sent a couple of letters to the paper and people have been coming up to me telling me how much they have enjoyed my most recent letters. So I think I am going to start sending more letters to the editor.

I also run into folks all the time that tell me how much they love reading my blog. I sure be glad when folks begin to show me how much they love me by making a donation to help do what I do. Several months ago a friend that I had not heard from in a a couple of years sent me a check in the mail for $200.00. Oh what a blessing. It came right on time because I was running real low on cash something that happens all the time since I am always buying equipment and/or supplies to do what I do. I am the only one working, wife going to nursing school, daughter in her last year of undergraduate school and son going will be a freshman in high school next week. But because I have a Dad that sits up high and blessed to have a living Dad here on earth that helps me I am able to make ends meet.

But I don’t want to leave anyone out because another friend has given me $50.00 this year also so don’t think I am putting a price on a donation because I will accept anything that anyone may give. It takes equipment, gas, DVD’s, SD Cards for photos and etc. to do what I do.

I do what I do out of pocket and sacrifice much but it is well with my soul. When I said I am my brothers keeper I meant that so that means even when my brothers don’t see a need to help with the cause it is all good. When I said I was committed to educating folks about what is going on around them I meant it. I know my Dad that sits up high is going to provide.

I love everyone and it ain’t nothing they can do about it. I know everybody don’t love me and that’s alright because I am going to hold folks that don’t want to be held accountable for their actions be they black, brown, white and other. However I tell everyone to hold me accountable also.

“I have no permanent friends no permanent enemies only permanent interest!”

I am who I am Curmilus Dancy II and I ain’t going to change for you because I truly believe I am doing what I was put here to do and that is the ministry of communication. I may not write as eloquently, as fluently as you would like but actually I don’t want to. I write so everyday folks can understand what I write. If they everyday folks can understand it then I know those who think they have arrived get it as well.

Be blessed!

Diversity will help strengthen departments – Rocky Mount Telegram

Rocky Mount police and fire officials are taking the correct approach in aiming to increase the diversity of their departments.

The police department is looking to hire as many as eight officers, and the fire department intends to fill three full-time and nine part-time positions.

Police and fire officials told Telegram staff writer Brie Handgraaf that they want their departments to better reflect the community they serve. That’s an important and laudable goal. (More)
