In recent weeks, we’ve heard a lot about Zimmerman being a bully. A Florida investigator described George Zimmerman, the man who shot and killed unarmed teen Trayvon Martin, to the F.B.I. as “overzealous” but a “soft guy” with a “hero complex.” And his ex-girlfriend said he once smacked her in the mouth for chewing gum. So we’re accustomed to hearing stories about how Zimmerman behaved as a bully and vigilante. The History of Elite Athletes with bloodlines from Edgecombe County continues.
This past weekend 3 Athletes participated in the USA Track and Field Region 3 Championships in Newport News, Virginia on the campus of Christopher Newport University. All 3 athletes were able to place in their events and qualify for the USA Track and Field National Championships also known as the Junior Olympics. This event will take place on July 23rd-July 29th, 2012 in Baltimore, Maryland on the campus of Morgan State University.
Marquavious(17) and Marcell(16) Johnson of Knightdale, NC, are the son’s of Wanda Pittman formerly of Tarboro. These brothers are members of Track Eastern Track Club. Marcell runs the 3rd leg while Marquavious runs the anchor leg of the Young Men’s division of 4×400 relay team. Marquavious and Marcell are the grandchildren of Mr. Curtis and Linda Ruffin, and Ms. Barbara Thigpen, all of Tarboro.
Imari Deloatch age 8 of Durham, NC is the daughter of Ivan and Felicia Deloatch. Ivan is a former Tarboro High and Elizabeth City State University Football standout while his wife Felicia lettered in Track and Field at Northern Durham High School and Elizabeth City State University. Imari is a member of Carolina Elite Track Club and runs the 1st leg on the Sub-Bantum 4×100 relay team. Imari is the granddaughter of Ms. Myrna Deloatch of Tarboro and the late Mr. Johnny Deloatch.
