Yes, Birtherism is Racist (As is Donald Trump): Three Videos Tell You Why – Source: AlterNet

In the wake of yesterday’s surprise long-form birth-certificate reveal from President Obama, there’s been plenty of incisive commentary explaining why the birther movement was offensive and racist, the nature of conspiracy theories won’t go away. For those in our audience who want to digest that commentary themselves or want fodder to combat colleagues, cousins, or anyone who isn’t convinced by the evidence, here are three videos explaining the racial politics behind the birther movement. WILL WAKE’S HIGH POVERTY SCHOOLS HURT HOME PROPERTY VALUES – Source: The Cash Roc

EDITOR – This is part 6 of a multi-part look at Walnut Creek Elementary School, and the other high poverty schools that the conservative-led Wake County School Board will be creating in Southeast Raleigh as it moves forward with its controversial neighborhood schools policy. Studies consistently show black and Hispanic students are relegated to poor instruction, a lack of resources and a second-rate education in high poverty, racially identifiable schools. The property values in neighborhoods with high poverty schools also suffer, as families move away.

The Carolinian examines the question, “Will all or any of this happen in Wake County?”

Boycott The Celebrity Apprentice and All of Donald Trumps Ventures & Venues

Lawrence O’Donnell the host of the Last Word a program on MSNBC noted tonight the ratings for The Celebrity Apprentice have been dropping since Cosby slammed Trump and also because of the statements he made regarding Obama. Also, NBC the station that televise the Celebrity Apprentice will decide whether or not to pick the show up for another season. The date NBC decides to pick up the show for another season is May 16th. Let’s band together and show Trump he’s not as great as he think he is. I am pleading with each of you to forward this email to all in your address book and ask them to forward it to everyone they know. We should also boycott his casinos, hotels, etc., anything with Trumps name on it. This man does not respect our President so let’s show him just how important he’s not. Trump needs to pay for his outrageous antics.

Please pass this along to everyone you know.

Thanks!

President Obama sternly warns U.S. cannot be distracted by “Carnival Barkers” by Gregory Boyce Columnist

Appearing as the “adult in the room”, President Barack Obama on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 held a news conference at the White House in order to put to rest the despicable andevil lie that he was not an American citizen.

To the horror and dismay of the “Birther Nation” and their chief carnival barker and clown, Donald Trump, President Obama presented his long form birth certificate which clearly illustrated that he was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on August 4, 1961 at Kapiolani Maternity and Gynecological Hospital. Wilson NC – Video: The NC Eastern Municipal Power Agency Meets/Rocky Mount Councilman Andre Knight 2nd Vice Chair Briefing On The Meeting

Click on picture to watch 32 minute video.

imageI attended the NCEMPA monthly meeting on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 after deciding at the last minute to go. This is the 2nd meeting that I have attended and the last one I attended was over a year ago.

When I arrived at the 10:00 AM meeting around 10:20 AM the board was in closed session and they were in it until around 11:20 AM. I learned later that there was a spokesperson from Progress Energy to give the board an update on the merger.

During the open session the board members voted on 2 bills and the 1st Rep. Buck Newton’s bill HB 559 Study ElectriCities Relief failed 60 – 67 and the 2nd Rep. Jean Farmer-Butterfield bill HB 457 Municipal Electric Utilities/UC Oversight along with her co-sponsors bill failed by a large number of votes.

Rocky Mount Councilman Andre Knight and 2nd Vice Chair of the board made a motion in support of the 1st bill however he was not successful. It is believed that if New Bern Mayor Lee Bettis and Elizabeth City Mayor Roger McClain had stayed until the end of the meeting that their votes would have been enough to pass the 1st bill.

Another board member made a motion opposing the 2nd bill and his motion passed to oppose by a large margin.

I believe it is only about 3 black board members out of 32. It is my opinion that Councilman Knight will not get much support on motions he will put on the floor. This makes me wonder how he was elected to the vice chair position. I came to the conclusion that he was probably chosen thinking that it would silence him.

Neighbor to Rocky Mount (Twin Counties) is Tarboro NC Town Councilman Sam Nobles also in Edgecombe County voted opposite of Councilman Knight on both bills.

I am wondering since Councilman Nobles has retired as Tarboro Town Manager but is in the interim while they hire someone,  why don’t one of the town councilmen take his seat on the NCEMPA board? But maybe they are just waiting for the person that is hired to take his seat.

There is an advisory committee meeting on today in Raleigh NC. I heard several members of the NCEMPA board ask Councilman Knight would they see him in Raleigh on tomorrow and his response was yes.

Pictures from the meeting.

Corrections: Wilson voted for Rep. Buck Newton’s bill, had previously posted they did not. Mayor Lee Bettis is the Mayor of New Bern and not Kinston.

Also trying to find out more information such as if the board voted in closed session that should have been voted on in open session.
