Guinness World Record holder dies – Source: Sun Journal

BROWNSVILLE – Herbert Fisher and Zelmyra Fisher were married May 13, 1924.

They were known as the oldest living couple, as recognized by the Guinness World Records. But that distinction has come to an end with Herbert’s death Sunday. He was 105. (Read more)


North Carolina Central University Campus Echo Reigns Supreme

The Campus Echo, the student-led newspaper at North Carolina Central University, continued its domination of the National HBCU Student News Media Conference Excellence in Journalism Contest awards, earning 16 awards this year. The six first-place and seven second-place awards set a conference record. The publication also received four awards from the North Carolina College Media Association. (Read more)

On February 28, President Obama reiterated his belief that States should have the power and flexibility to innovate and find the health care solutions that work best for them and announced his support for accelerating State Innovation Waivers and allowing states to apply for them starting in 2014.

Beginning in 2017, the law allows States the flexibility to receive a State Innovation Waiver so they may pursue their own innovative strategies to ensure their residents have access to high quality, affordable health insurance. (Read more)

Cary bank hostage claims police mistreatment–Source: WRAL (Videos A Must See)

Cary, N.C. — A Cary man who was held hostage in a bank earlier in February says that police treated him roughly when he was released.

Police say that Devon Mitchell, 19, claimed to have a gun and held as many as seven people hostage at a Wachovia bank on Feb. 10. He let five hostages, including Rev. Lee Everett, leave over the course of three hours. (Read more)
