Note: Dr. Witherspoon has done a tremendous job with trying to turn Edgecombe County Public Schools around. Although some folks had a problem with him, it goes to show how professional this young man is. Thank you Dr. W. for all that you have done and I feel strongly that you will do the best that you can in Alabama inspite of going in having to deal with a bunch of mess. But if you stay focused like you have done in Edgecombe County it is no doubt in my mind that you will take Alabama Schools to a new level. Sheriff faces contest for post Source: The Rocky Mount Telegram

A New York native filed Tuesday to run against Edgecombe County Sheriff James Knight in the Democratic primary.

John Wilson, a political newcomer who moved to Tarboro in August, said he was troubled as he read media reports about a series of Edgecombe County jailbreaks last year and several unsolved murders that have grabbed national attention in recent months. (Read more @ The Rocky Mount Telegram)
