DCN Inspirational Award – DCN recognizes Elizabeth Ohree for her loyalty and friendship over the years

Elizabeth Ohree, a retired educator. I met her back in the late 90’s when I joined the Rocky Mount NAACP and also through the Edgecombe County Democratic Party.

Ms. Ohree has always supported me however I guess that was the school teacher in her. She is one of my top most faithful folks who I have much respect for.

Ms. Ohree taught school in Nash County and is an alumni of Winston Salem State University. She has two children who are school teachers in the local area and a granddaughter who is in her second year of college. She loves her family.

Ms. Ohree has always treated me with much respect and always thanked me for the work I do with the NAACP, the Democratic Party, other community organizations and especially the work I do through Dancy Communications Network educating folks about what is going on around them. She always ask me when do I get some sleep, and how do I keep all of that information in my head. She tells me all the time that her daughter says my little old head is going to burst with all that information I have inside.

Ms. Ohree has always opened her door for me to come in and not only share information with her but others in the community. She has supported whatever I did within the NAACP and the Democratic Party because she knew that I always do my homework.

Ms. Ohree knows that everything comes with a price and she has always donated to Dancy Communications Network although I tried not to accept it. She reminds me of this elderly man whom has gone on to be with the Lord whom I cooked and videoed for his family over the years during their time of bereavement and I tried not to accept anything but he said that I was keeping him from receiving his blessing by giving to me. So therefore I deal with elderly people with all that wisdom very carefully and I try to respect them to the upmost.

Thank you Ms. Ohree for being there for me over the years because it was you who kept me on the battlefield when I wanted to give up. We have had some experiences within the NAACP and the Democratic Party but we made it. I tried to do all I could to make your role easy when you served as an officer within both organizations. You welcomed me as a young man and kept me encouraged to do my homework and because of you I have much knowledge when it comes to the NAACP and the Democratic Party.

From The Publisher – Just Thinking Out Loud, Where I Am Headed With Dancy Communications Network

Just thinking about how I have been promoting other folks since the early 90’s as I became an advocate for justice. My mission has been to help make Edgecombe County a better place to live, work and play. Advocacy comes with much sacrifice and I have experienced that you have to go through some things to get where you need to be and it may not be all productive nor sweet.

The time has come that I am going to promote me since it appears that others are about themselves. I do not know of anyone who have traveled this county but not limited to recording history and speaking out on issues as much as I have promoting other folks and some were ungreatful Negroes. I have traveled across the state videoing events for others and didn’t collect a dime and these folks didn’t even say thank you after I have given them a copy of the DVD.

I have tried to get along with folks and give them the benefit of the doubt especially until I get to know them on a personal note. I know all the players locally and many across the state and many have benefitted from my work. But it is all good because I chose to do what I do so I ain’t mad with anyone just because I am going to change the way I do things.

We have been taught to not talk about what we have done to make things better because it makes it appear that we are all about ourselves. Well I have always said that it takes others around you to help make you however if others around are not promoting you, then who are going to promote you? But another thing who can promote you better than you? So actually it takes both and.

I have spent countless hours promoting others however the time has come where I am going to spend that time promoting self and talk about the things I have done and will continue to do in the future. There are so many times that people recognize folks who have not done anything or because they did things years ago. That is fine but what about the people young and old who are doing things in the now? Nope we wait until they die and then we talk good about them when they can’t hear it.

There is so much I want to do however I am limited to time and financial resources so therefore I try to promote folks through Dancy Communications Network. I really appreciate those of you who have stood behind me and promoted me faithfully.

I have committed to working with Voices of Many an Education Advocacy Group that will set up teams to support our children within the Edgecombe County Public Schools System upcoming year. This group will be ready to go in with parents to help them with utilizing all the resources that are available to them. Our focus will be to educate our parents about what they need to do to help ensure that all children receive a quality education. Please stay tuned for more information coming soon as it relates to the Voice of Many Education Advocacy Group.

I have sacrificed much time and financial resources using my tools which includes video camera, photo camera, computer, cell phone and etc. My time is valuable. I have a wife, a son and a daughter who is now in her second week in college so therefore I have more traveling to do to the college PTA (Parent Teacher Association) meetings in which I joined around two months ago, college games, local high school games and etc. So if I continue to use up all of my financial resources here doing things for free, then I will not be able to do other things. As I look at the economy and others are cutting back I questioned myself when am I going to do the same? Now is the time.

So in the future if you do not see me at certain events and see certain things, people and etc. being promoted through The DCN Network, just know that I am making some changes.
