Wilson removed as plaintiff in plant site rezoning lawsuits – Source: The Rocky Mount Telegram

An N.C. Superior Court judge ruled Friday that the city of Wilson be removed as a plaintiff from two ongoing lawsuits against Nash County.

Wilson has sued Nash County over rezoning close to 150 acres of land at the intersection of Interstate 95 and N.C. 97 that Sanderson Farms wants to use to build a new poultry processing plant. (Read more)

Nash County purchases site sought by poultry plant–Rocky Mount Telegram

NASHVILLE — Nash County officials will move forward with purchasing rural property that could become the site for a proposed Sanderson Farms poultry processing plant.

The Nash County Board of Commissioners discussed whether to acquire 145 acres belonging to Cecil T. Williams and his wife, Bertine, during a closed session during their meeting Monday. After coming out of the closed session, the board voted 5-2 to purchase the couple’s property along N.C. 97 — in close proximity to the Interstate 95 and N.C. 97 interchange — for $1.2 million. Bailey enters chicken plant fight–Source: Rocky Mount Telegram

The Bailey Town Board of Commissioners has unanimously voted to oppose a poultry processing plant in Southern Nash County.

Nash County officials are trying to convince the Mississippi-based Sanderson Farms to build a processing plant on 150 acres of land at the southeast quadrant of N.C. 97 and Interstate 95. (Read more)

Wilson citizens deserve full public accounting–Source: The Wilson Times

At any given time over the past two years, some 5,000 people in Wilson County have been without jobs. A stretch of record-setting economic misery has snatched people’s livelihoods, savings and even their homes in painful numbers.

Yet while so many suffered, Wilson’s sheriff and its county manager enjoyed a big payday. A Wilson Times special report found that during 2009 and 2010 Sheriff Wayne Gay and Wilson County Manager Ellis Williford received excessive, five-figure raises. Democratic county commissioners and Williford shepherded those raises in a manner that kept them out of sight, meaning the decisions were made without the transparency common sense and good government demand.
