GREENVILLE, N.C. – After weeks of debate both internally and externally the president of the Pitt County Southern Christian Leadership Conference has resigned.  And his cabinet has been removed.  It’s tied to the arrest of Greenville City councilwoman Kandie Smith. (Read more)

Note: This is what happens when you do not do your homework. It appears Huggins didn’t do his homework before he suspended those guys. Replaced them and now look at where the group stands.

I hope this send a message to others that you must follow your own policies and procedures and if you don’t get it, ask some damn body. Oh well here we go again. C. Dancy II – DCN Publisher

Editorial: Smith case steals focus from larger issue – The Daily Reflector

Posted by Curmilus Dancy II (Butch) on August 5, 2010

The recent announcement by the Greenville Police Department about the June arrest of City Councilwoman Kandie Smith managed to do the unthinkable. It made a complicated case even more confusing by answering a question that did not seem pertinent while failing to resolve a central issue dividing the community. (Source: The Daily Reflector)

SCLC to discuss stance on police chief at meeting – Source: The Daily Reflector

Posted by Curmilus Dancy II (Butch) on July 23, 2010

The Southern Christian Leadership Conference is meeting Tuesday to discuss its stance on a call to remove Greenville Police Chief William Anderson from office.

Tuesday’s 7 p.m. meeting at 1032 Fleming St. already was scheduled. The Anderson discussion, however, has become a prominent part of the agenda after William Dudley, chairman of the local chapter’s board of directors, and Reginald Walton, the board’s assistant chairman, sent a letter to The Daily Reflector on Thursday that stated the organization did not condone efforts to seek Anderson’s removal and thought he was doing “a noble job.” (Read more @ The Daily Reflector)

Note: Here we go again. Division among the ranks. Oh well when will we get it together. It is one thing to disagree but when this type of disagreement takes place and it is made public without the entire organization reaching some kind of consensus is just sad. As I read the article it appears that there were little to no discussion or a lack of communication as it relates to where the SCLC stands as an organization. C. Dancy II – DCN Publisher

Editorial: Smith’s arrest opens reasonable debate in wrong fashion Source: The Daily Reflector

The arrest of Greenville City Councilwoman Kandie Smith brought several simmering community issues to a full boil, most notably concern about the performance of the Greenville Police Department under the leadership of Chief William Anderson. A coalition of civil rights organizations have used the incident to call for Anderson’s job, claiming that police-community relations have suffered on his watch. (Read more @ The Daily Reflector)

SCLC narrows finalists for new president to 2

Posted by Curmilus Dancy II (Butch) on October 3, 2009

Note: It is a damn shame that we have come so far but we still have so far to go. Sometimes I wonder will we get there in my lifetime. I have seen the old guards continue to hold us just where we are.

The question of the day is, “What in the hell is it going to take for us to come together as a black people so we can be a powerful force especially since we have a black president?” Do we need to go back to slavery to remind us that we need to put all this black drama aside? It is embarrassing as hell to me to read an article like this about how this group is battling with infighting when the damn real fight is RACISM. C. Dancy II – DCN Publisher

ATLANTA — The civil rights group co-founded by the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. narrowed the list of finalists for its next president Saturday to his youngest daughter and an Arkansas judge.

The Southern Christian Leadership Conference’s board of directors will consider the Rev. Bernice King and Arkansas Court of Appeals Judge Wendell Griffen for the organization’s top spot. (Read more @ The Rocky Mount Telegram)
